1972-73 AAR Eagle Project
Posted by Mikeb3313 on Thursday, February 02, 2017 2:16 PM

The 1972-73 AAR Eagle is in my option one of the most beautiful Indy cars of all time  Bobby Unser set track records with it Jerry Grant almost won the 72 500 in one and Gordon Johncock did win the 73 500 in one

AMT made 3 kits of the Eagle two for 74 and one for 75 but to be honest they are not very good too wide and way too blocky Bill Jorgensen made a resin trans kit of the 73 winner that was perfect but is long out of production and is very hard to find so I grabbed one of my AMT kits and am going to try to make it right

This is what I'm starting with I did the nose about 2 years ago

The AMT body is way too wide so I had to remove some material from the top of the body

With that done I separated the cockpit opening from the body top

The AMT cockpit opening is also too wide and is the wrong shape it should be square at the front not round

With the opening fixed I moved on to fixing the lower part of the body I cut off the sides and removed some material then I glued the sides back on

Once I was happy with it I glued it all together and added the lower part of the nose

I had to remove the part in black to get the top of the nose to fit right and be at the correct angle  I filled the gap with some epoxy putty and glued the top of the nose and the side panels on

Next I cut off the back of the body and glued the top of the body on

Then it was time to add the cockpit opening and fill and sand

More to come soon

Thanks for looking

Now this is gonna be a cool wip to watch. It looks like you've thought this one out very carefully.

Feelings are like scents: The more they are analyzed, the worse they smell.
