55 Corvette Gasser. 7/11 progress.
Posted by Johnt on Saturday, June 02, 2018 3:34 PM

I recently finished a 53 Corvette and wanted to do a gasser version because I liked the looks of it. I built a 53 years ago and wasn't wild about the styling, but I found I now liked it a lot more.

I wanted another 53 to do the gasser and use the six cylinder motor for a street rod, But the 55 was set up for a V-8 and had some drag parts in the kit so I went that way.

Power will be a fuel injected 409, and I hope to keep it in the late 50 to early 60's time frame. I started trying on some wheels and tires.

I went with the wheels and tires in the middle picture of the first post.

This is close to the final stance, and I primed it after doing the body work.

"She's Real Fine...."

Love it so far !! Those small hole kidneybeans looks perfect *Drool*

I've been getting into watching the South East Gassers ( partially for the accents !)  on youtube again , there are some real beauties  ( & "oddities" !)  Theres even a period correct Superstock class opened up with Don Goerother (?Spelling ?) in a '67 Plymouth no less !

Painted and foiled, decals next. Since it's a drag car I left the interior door panels off and glued the dash to the body.

I wanted to finish this before my knee replacement tomorrow, but I fell behind because I tried a couple of other motors in it before chosing to stay with the 409.

Surgery over and rehab is ongoing. I had a little time to do some work on it. Headers on, but I'm not wild about them, motors in and chassis is done.

Thanks MY327. It's been done for a while now but I'm still a little unsteady going down the stairs I take my pictures there because the light is better. I know better than to ask my wife to carry it down, I think we all know how that would work out. :)

I'm 58 years old and had my knee replaced 3 years ago. Best thing I could have ever done. Push as hard as you can in rehab. You will be happy.Keep up the good work!
