VW Type 3 (1500) Notchback Resin
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, October 09, 2006 12:11 PM
Finally one off my biggest dreams in the model world can be realised.
A Type 3 Notchback in 1/24 - 1/25 scale !

2 weeks ago I found this resin cast at a show in Västeraas, Sweden.
I bought it from Hans Kihlen (Modelpularn). Kihlen originally purchased it from Juha Airo that told him that it where made by another finish guy called Tapani Rauramo. It has only been produced in a reduced number of casts.

My plan is to build it as a California Looker.
In the eighties I was into aircooled VW´s in 1/1 scale.
I will seek inspiration to this build from that time era.
To complete the project I will use parts from my Tamiya, Hasegawa and Revell VW and Porsche "junk" boxes.

Here is some pics off the resin body;

It feels nice to know you are happy with the Notchback. I realized it would probably just collect dust around here anyway. I'm not that much of a VW freak. Good luck with your project, it will be interesting to see what you make of it!!

Hopefully we will meet up at BUCK late october (?)
This time we will be there early, to catch up some more social talk.
It was kind off stressful in Västeraas because off our late arival due to the excaust problems on Gerts 1/1 car.

Unfortunately Gert can not attemp to BUCK. He is on vacation on that time.

This is actually the resin body that Perry's resin have been promising for quite a while now. The master was sent over from Finland, but sadly it hasn't been available yet. Any words on this proces`? Will it happen at all? I know the Finns are doubtful and disappointed........

Interesting information, you got there.
Since I started this post, I have received loads off e-mails regarding where people can buy these body´s.

Maybe there will be a solution for this in the future.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Well hopefully I'll be able to post pictures up of the finished master early next week. Tapari Rauramo made the original master as a body only. He did send door pads, dash, and bumpers along as well, but that leaves too much to be scratch built. Finding the time to do all the finish work has been like pulling teeth, but we're on it now. I needed to add a lot to make it a kit. It's being done so that you can use the Herbie kit, or the Tamiya as a donor. I think the Fujimi may work too, but I haven't tried it. The Type III will be released November 19th at the NNL North in Detriot. If your in the area drop by. It was a great show last year, and a good time was had by all. First year show had over 700 models on the table, and it looks like it will go by that this year.

That's great news, Randy!
I know I'm not alone in wanting to get my hands on a copy of this one. When will it be available for sale for those of us who can't attend the NNL North? Will it be available online?
Thanks!

Awesome.
Who would not want one of those.
My favorite Vee Wee.
Now if you could get some BRM wide 5 wheels.
Herb Deeks used to make some.
Anyone know where BRM wheels for VW could be found in 1/24

Oooohhh!!!
Finally some pictures of the Type 3 that we have heard so much about.
That looks really nice and I will have to get at least a handfull of these.

I got one of the Maisto die casts on Monday and it is not at all that good but I will make that as a first anyway.

Doug: I think if you send Slabbedask a mail/message he may have some info on where to get BRMsWink

That IS really great news!! I was hoping that the rumours I heard was just a bit pessimistic, and that this baby would really happen. I do appreciate the work involved in preparing masters for casting, as I've done a bit of the stuff my self. And that's only smaller parts, can't imagine what's involved with a full body....
I'll be waiting for this, like a child as December is ticking on to Christmas.....
I hope that someone will announce it on this forum as soooooon as this is available for shipping....Tongue

Wow what a huge interest all over sudden.

Well the body that I got, do have the dashboard, bumpers + door and last quarter piece of interior sides.

There will be no doubt about that I will purchase one off Perrys cast then they will be released.

Untill then I will enjoy my new Notchback and maybe start up the project in a short time.

BTW ; Will you do windows for it to include in the kit ?

Yes it will have windows. It will also have body with trim, interior, and lights.

I haven't looked into doing BRMs, but they would be easy to do I think. I am trying to talk someone into doing Radars in aluminum for me to cast. I have them on my bug, so I need a setBig Smile.

You are right AFX does Raders along with Empi 5 spokes.
I along with other fellow danes, placed an order at AFX some 8 months ago.
We ordered Raders and other rims, but haven´t seen any yet.
Still waiting after 8 months, hmmmmm not funny.

I bought a set of those too, and didn't have any problems repopping them.....Big SmileWink
Of course there's the odd air bubble, but for my own use, they're good enough. And after all, these are the only proper BRM's I've seen in scale. (And I've seen a few attempts.....)

Randy-

Are you taking orders for the Type III, or placing reservations at the moment? I'd like to have a couple of these and would like to get on some sort of list. Thanks!

Kruzing- You've got a nice one there. I've been hoping for a type III (Notchie, Fastback or station wagon) for some time now and can't wait to hopefully get a couple done. I can't believe that Hasegawa or Tamiya never did one of them.

No, sorry we're not taking preorders. Tapari Rauramo, and Raymond (he put the deal together) get the first ones. Then it will be a first come, first served thing. Once I have some out of the mold I'll let everyone know . I'll post it here, and on the site.

As I get closer to done, I'm really looking forward to building one myself. Never did find a notch in Canada. So I'll just need to make one up. Did have the luck of finding an all original squareback in the next town. Even had the tires it came with on it.

No price is set yet. I don't know how much car there will be until I'm done. I am going to try and keep it reasonable though.

Randy ;

Is it possible to just order the upcoming windows for this one ?

I will probably purchase one or two complete "kits" from you anyhow, but still I desperately needs some windows for the body I already got.

Status on the project;

I need to get some other projects done before the swedish BUCK show, before I will start upp with this one.

BTW. What a huge interest on this tread. It seems like I have started something that was just sitting there and waiting, Sort off speak.

Cool

Cheers
