32 Ford "Li'l Viky" - Finished, Outdoor Pics!
Posted by modelcarjr on Monday, January 13, 2020 8:50 PM

Well, its time to build another 32 Ford Hot Rod. This is a challenging kit as there is all kind of flash on all the parts and flash and mold lines on the body. But I got the body into primer yesterday. Its been raining all day so I worked on the tires and wheels. I didn't want to use the Racemaster slicks so I found a couple of tires in the parts box that are a little smaller but wider and with tread. I uses a couple of decals for the white sidewalls and after they dry will brush on some dullcote and use some blackwash around the bead of the tire and on the wheels.

I shortened the firewall so the body would channel over the frame. I'm not sure what color but I am thinking about doing a paint fade with a couple different colors of yellow sort of but not exactly like Tim Boyd's gasser on the current cover of SA. Thanks for looking! Cool

Next on the bench:  Another 1970 Hemi 'Cuda, 1958 Chevy Impala, 1987 Buick GNX, 1950 Chevy Pick-up, Indy Reynard, 1965 Corvette, probably not in this order.

Good start. Nice tire/wheel set.

That Vicky looks like it will be a nice little project.  I also like the wheel choices you made for it.  Keep us updated on it, please.

Thanks, Trevor and Dave! I appreciate the comments! The wheels and front tires were in the kit. I just substituted some parts box rear tires with some decals for the Racemaster slicks in the kit.

Raining again today. Not much done. Waiting to paint.

Starting to make progress! Finished the engine and it looks OK. I wired the engine with a pre-wired MAD distributor. Not sure how I got a blue distibutor cap but I guess I must have checked the wrong box when I ordered them. I also ran a fuel line around the six carbs, used a little brass paint to denote fittings and then ran a rubber line to the fuel pump. The wire and hose was the extra material from the MAD distibutor. I pulled the single wire from the spark plug boot material and wrapped it around the carbs and then used the extra piece of boot material for the connecting hose.

There are only 4 carb plugs in the kit (little round balls) but there are six carbs. So I am going to have to run to Hobby Lobby top see if they have any beads this size in red. The engine looks pretty good sitting in the frame with the body posed. Thanks for looking! Cool

Quite a few problems with this one but I won't bore y'all with all the details. I used the original Racemaster tires as the other tires were not as tall as the front tires and I ruined the decal whitewalls. Just a few more pieces and it will be done! Thanks for looking! Cool

Modelcarjr, that Vicky is shaping up nicely.  I do like how everything is turning out.  One question, did those rear fenders come with the kit, or did you do your own.  I kinda like where it's going.

Thanks, Dave! I appreciate your question. Yes, the fenders came in the kit as did everything else except for the spark plug and coil wiring, the coil, plumbing for the carbs and plugs for the carbs that I added.

So now its done! its too bad that they didn't include tall treaded whitewalls in the kit. I did manage to find some glass beads (actually my wife did) at JoAnn Fabrics that will fit in the carbs as plugs. I primered and painted them and they fit perfectly. So here are three finished pics. Thanks for looking! Cool

Wow! That vickie was a quickie! Love the paint and the carb treatment. Looks authentic! I haven't built one that quick since the fifties. Smile, Wink & Grin

Cool looking old rod, Jr. I'm digging the raft of carburettors.

Finally got some outdoor pics. I think these will show the "fade" paint job a little better. Thanks for looking! Cool
