32 Ford Hi-Boy Roadster Is Done...Again!
Posted by mrmike on Friday, May 11, 2018 8:54 PM

I built this '32 Ford 12 years ago and I decided this morning I would update it.  Here's what it looked like back then.

This afternoon I partially disassembled the '32 and cleaned it up and started reassembling the hot rod.  I bought these wheels at NNL East, but I forgot who the seller was.  They look like Cragar SS mags (my favorite) and the downside of these wheels is that they have no mounts or wheel backs.  So, I made some.

The engine is still the same 302 CI V-8 with an Autolite In-line 4 barrel carb and intake manifold.

Nice upgrade, and great choice of wheels! They look similar to the sets Steve Zimmerman offers.

I wish I could remember who had offered those wheels and it might have been Steve Zimmerman who did.  I just can't remember.  I do remember that the vendor was next to Don Yost at NNL East in the small room with the snack bar.

Once again, the '32 HiBoy Roadster is back on the bench.  I've decided to show the model this year, so I'm adding a few details like headlight wiring.  I also lowered the front suspension a tad.  The headlights are currently off their mounts while they are drying.  Then I'll mount the headlights.

More to come...

Looks good, Mike.

When I saw the 'before' photo a the top of the post, I was instantly reminded of Phil Cool's High-boy which appeared on a few car magazine covers in the 70s. His car had a blown Hemi (if I recall correctly) and really big rear rubber, but the wheels, colour, and overall vibe are strikingly familiar.

Thanks Trevor!  It's amazing what memories are sparked by a picture!

I got the headlights remounted.

A view of the headlight wiring.  I suppose I could have made the wiring a little shorter.  Oh well, maybe next time...

What a cool hot rod with out some fuzzy dice?

More to come...

Ok!  My '32 HighBoy Roadster is done again! Laugh  I added wiring to the headlights and fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror and lowered the front suspension a little.

Great updates! I am always hesitant to do that, but yours turned out great. Mike

Thank you Mike!  I have been looking at certain models on the shelf that need a rebuild and this one needed an update.  I really like the way it turned out.

My only personal hesitation is that I would change "snap shot" of where I was when I built it, meaning mainly my thoughts, resources and abilities. I like how you just made some minor changes. You didn't repaint it or tear it completely apart and reconstruct it from the ground up. It's nice to freshen things up like that, andI like those wheels. Mike

Thanks Mike!  I really like those wheels, too!  They great resemble Cragar SS mags which are my favorite mag wheel.  What this '32 needed was a good cleaning (my shelves have no doors or covers) and a bit of an update.  I left the first picture to illustrate what I was starting with and the end result is how it looks now.
