Parts box Rod. Lets hear your suggestion.
Posted by Gluecipher on Monday, April 23, 2018 10:19 AM

I know, i have a few building threads already, but its due to me having less time to make models, and if any, due to finding all parts is very slow.

But heres a new thread for new idea on which i could use your ideas.

I have these to donate parts:

-Revell 50 ford pickup , missing the alloy rims/tires,and whitewalls. I bought it only for its Ardun Flattie which still is there in the box.

-Revell 29 roadster, that hi/lowboy kit. It is missing 2 Stromberg carbs and rear tires only.

-Amt Mod Rod kit. All intact. Best things in it are its stock body and frame. I like the pic on the box, showing the "Souped Up" early rod. Trog, man. I havent opened the the kit box, but i saw that atleast some version had also a blower in the kit?

-Amt 53 Ford pickup. Has all the parts in. Bought it for its flathead engine, plus the tools ,especially welding kit.

-Revell 31 sedan, quick change rear, 5" scale inch chopped body, frame with front axle member moved a bit forward and up,with Orange Crate axle and arms. Other than those its on hold. Bought it only for its Riley OHV converted engine with twin carbs etc,its a treasure to me.

-amt 32 vicky, mildly z'd rear frame to make it ride lower. Body channeled so that its lowest point is on level with frames lower corner. Been fitting 4x4 driveline on it, from  amt Crew Chief but its hubs are so visible to be so simple that it killed the will to finish the vehicle. It has Amt 53 Studebakers twin supercharged v8 partially fitted to the frame. My idea was (and is) to make somewhat a realistic Mad Max style, quite low, knobby tired beaten ride without any weapons on it. All stock parts of Vicky kit are there too, minus 2 velocity stacks and "moon" tank,i think.

Few Revell 29 rat rod kits, like 3? With enought parts to build atleast one kit described in the instructions.

Orange Crate. I dont know why i have it, but it misses its front axle and them wishbones only.

Revell 48 ford custom coupe. All parts intact. To me its value is in its engine, the heads especially.

Amt Fruitwagon, all parts intact. Bought it to get quick change rear, Latham blower, but i like its body, turtle deck, frames and bed too.

------------

Yes, its bit long list i think, but bear with me. I wrote them all, so you could use your knowledge, of what those kits include, to imagine one ride you could possibly build, using parts from kits listed above.

My own idea seems to spin around '29 Roadster body from Mod Rod, somehow looking bit like the known Hinman's rod. I cant ever reproduce its accurate copy, but something in similar style. Not a rat rod !

Its just that i like both, suicide fronts moved forward and up,to get em ride low..but i sure have fetish for shortened stubby hot rods as well. Like really short.

I have nothing against mutilating roadsters body to look more like pickups body,or using pickup body, with rear axle moved forward, body towards rear,to get it short.

Its also ok to keep the roadster body as is,just quite heavily channeled.

I like stubby pickup beds but i can imagine using just pickup body with no turtledecks nor beds. Tank can be visible, bolted on rear crossmember for all i care. Radiators place is where it might fit,be it behind or front of engine,in trunk or next to driver as long as it was possible at earmy 60's or better yet, earlier. Radiator dont have to have shell nor grille,or it can be protected with vintage stock car style tube contraption.

Tweedy Pie with zero show, only go?

Boardtracker on 4 wheels ?

Early stock car / dirt tracker with register plates ?

First rail jobs ,yet only barely legal and in a way streetable ?

Done in backyard with more passion than finesse.

Radical,light,vicious,fast,notorious,noisy....purpose built. Yet streetable.

Only fourbanger or flathead 8 will do.

I like TROG and general working class vintage/nostalgy, but this car might still be built at early 60's if parts wont allow it to be built earlier.

Body will be '29 ,most likely. Be it roadster, pickup roadster or with roof. Or body options of Fruitwagon ( pickup,turtledeck.).

These kits offer hopped-up fourbanger, modified flathead 8, latham blower, quick change rear,stock/dropped axles, variety of rims and tires.

Thanks if if you saw the effort to read this, and even more if you can throw good ideas.

I like the board /dirt tracker idea myself . all pre war old school parts , Sort of like an early 30's Indy car & a model a -or T- had a mongrel child ?? 4 banger with the Winfield ohv conversion from the '29 truck kit + the latham blower side mounted with just 2 down drauhght carbs  The body ... hmmm ... Narrowed -single seater - body from the orange crate heavy on the chop ?? lots of choices ...you lucky so&so  Stick out tongue

If only you could sketch itBig Smile

Oh, one thing . I prefer it to have 29 body, be it pickup or roadster. Crates body makes it all too heavy looking unless i shorten it ,remove its whole passenger windows length.

If you see any car pics from links above, theres bit of the attitude i like.

I am sorry if i wrote so that i didnt state well, that body will most likely be '29.

But you clearly catched my drift by immediately suggesting such radical terrorizer.

I would make a tow rig out of the two 50's era trucks.

Also check out @villagecustoms on instagram, they build 1:1 cars and trucks like you are speaking of.

I can't leave anything stock!

Thanks for the tip, about Villagecustoms.

They seem to have pretty radical builds, but bit too new school. But similar ideas.

My last completed build was '37 Ford with some kind of tow/recovery boom so i think i will do now something closer to hot rods.

Thanks for reading and suggestion Yes

Sure i'll waite, sketches are always worth the waiting.

Glad if the links helped out figuring a bit of what im thinkin. Theres just too much cool rides to choose from, and i rather build all the nice features in one vehicle...but it would look horribe, something awful like it was built 2017 in some Ape Garage tv reality

These are what i picked up, from the Mod Rod kit, to this project. I am not saying i'll be using all of them but these are what i concider as potential parts.

So, here goes for nothing. I decided i'll use the Mod Rod's stock frame, and modify it slightly.

I took off each crossmember and such tabs, before assembling it back so that right rail is now on left side, and right side is on left side.  In picture its still in the stock form though.

 .

Theres a quick mockup shot. Im building the z'd part cleaner, offcourse but still im keeping it quite low tech and brutal, as if the frame was once maee with blowtorch and gas welding kit, keeping it purpose focused instead of thinking of going to local chrome shop to get all the the money on chroming the rails.

Not sure yet, am i using the pickup or roadster body.

Buy yourself a 30 degree ellipse template to do the wheels ( & how to draw cars book by Thom Taylor !) I love doing wheels , but sometimes the actual car looks awful - out of proportion etc .Its a good job I only buy cheap photocopy paper & recycle A LOT ! LOL

I reloaded the photos as the writing was off somewhere else !!
