I love woody wagons and have owned several 1 to 1's as well as other "Long  Roofs", but have never built a model of a woody, but been itchen' to dig into this very nice resin Jimmy Flinstone kit that I've had for ages.

It comes with the hood molded in, so first thing I did was to "Gingerly" knife open the hood, and it came out nice. I cleaned up the back side, and added hinges, Painted it a nice light pearl mint green with just one coat of clear to seal it for doing the wood grain, which I'm really happy with.

I still have to do the wood grain around the windows all the way around, and then it will get it's final coats of clear and then polish.

Lots of building to go, but thought I'd share a bit on this one.

Hey Bernard. Great to hear from you Big Smile.

The light colored wood around the outside is painted with several colors in a system I have developed over the years, on smaller interior pieces. The darker center wood is decals from my  decal stash.

It took the better part of a week to do the "Faux" wood paint, with a selection of different colors, and an ear swab applicator. The taping was "Insane" and took hours upon hours, but I'm happy with the results, so for me it was worth all the crazy work to get it done.

No "Notorious" look this time, as I will lower it, but probably use stock hubcaps and "Whites", and maybe some full length outside 50's/60's exhaust Thumbs Up - COOL.

I had a 57 Ford Wagon (not a woody) and would give anything to have it back! Your color choice is perfect and I can't wait to see the finished build.

Chucky my friend Big Smile - Your right about the "Yenko" Chevelle Wagon.

Many years ago my building style was pretty narrow, but thanks to many here, as well as tuning in to the Velocity Channel, channel 11, sister station to the History channel, channel 10, and the Mecum Auction which I discovered about a year ago on Velocity, I have discovered a whole new world of auto history of low production muscle cars, and super muscle cars from the mid 60's to around 1971, that I never knew about, and have been heavily researching.

Cars not only produced by the auto companies, but companied like Tasca Ford, Niicky Chevrolet, Baldwin motion, and Yenko, as well as many others, mainly producing super high horsepower cars in very low numbers, that now are highly prized by collectors, and open up a whole new world of people like me, who want to have fun replicating these very low number cars, sometimes just one of a kind, like Carrol Shelby's "1967 Shelby Super Snake", that recently sold for 1.3 million dollars.

I have managed to get some decals produced for some of these cars as well as making some myself, so in the future you may see some models of these unknown cars show up here periodically.

Too much fun not to do them Smile, Wink & Grin.

I see these occasionally on ebay and have been tempted to buy one but I had a JF '57 Chrysler Wagon body that was just plain horrible !  Close to 1/4 inch thick in places !   Yours looks pretty decent ,  but what about the thickness and how much cleanup was there to get it ready for paint ?

I have several Flintstone bodies and they run the gamut of quality. This Country Squire, and also the 500 Fairlane 4 door wagon are both "Premium" bodies, same thickness as a plastic kit in most areas of the body.

I'm one of those people that are constantly taking chances, and don't really care if I mess up or fail, because sooner or later, if I don't give up, I will eventually get what I 'm doing right, and will have learned something new for the future and won't fail at that again, so I'll move forward and be better at yet another part of my building. Playin' it safe is definetly not how to build models or live life.

I had to do some grinding to get the windshield to fit, and some grinding on the underside of the hood at the front where it was reinforced for casting, before I knifed out the hood. Body required very little cleanup other than body lines as I remember. Most resin bodies I have done in the past have required a lot more work than this one. I would recommend this body to anyone who has some previous experience building other resin projects. There is a learning curve, and a good amount of patience needed, but once you pay your dues, you can build some nice one of a kind builds.

Dave,

You are doing a wonderful job with this one. I have had an  "All American Resin" '57 'Squire kit for several years, as well as a Jimmy Flintstone '57 Country Sedan to do. I have to finish the '60. I may do the '57 Country Sedan as a bookend to the Ranchero I did a while back. As for the chassis and other ancilliary pieces, I plan to use what is left of a Revell '57 Ranchero. It should fit with a little trimming.

Thanks for the info Dave.   I've done a few resin bodies and I don't have a problem doing some grinding to make things fit since I usually modify them a bit anyways .  As long as the body is worth the effort I'll do whatever it takes !

Having to let some paints dry longer, as the formulations have changed to comply with new federal guidelines, so progress pics will come a little slower during the painting process.

Hours more of taping, but I love the results Cool. No custom work, but for me it shows you can build something really nice with a lot of persistence in color choice and super attention to detailing.

I clear coated the wood trim before removing the tape, and will clear coat the entire car several times in a few days..

This is my first woody "Ever", but have a couple more to do, and now have the skills and confidence to have a system that works, and gets me really excited for these other projects Thumbs Up.

Dave, I really like that green you put on the body..  What is the name & color #.  Where did you buy it?  I'd like it for a future build........

Thanks everyone for the generous input Thumbs Up.

Got several other really fun projects going so it took me a while to get back Cool.

Got the grill blacked out and installed along with the headlights, taillights, and a bit of foiling here and there, and the clear coat rubbed out, and also the chrome caps that hold the wood trim in place are installed, replicated with 74 mini straight pins .

This is a reverse build as the chassis and interior have not been fitted to the body, assembled, or painted yet, so I'm building it backwards to what most of us usually do. I won't do anymore foiling until all those missing parts are done and tested for fit and finish.

Anyway a few progress pics.

Will you be using the Revell '57 ford 300 kit for the chassis and interior bits? IMHO, use the Fireball Roberts engine with the supercharger setup. Would make an awesome sleeper.
