Mustangs ( Show Them If You Got Them)
Posted by GlenHynes on Thursday, October 15, 2009 8:09 PM

due to the high quality of work that i have come to expect from you guys i know i wont be disapointed lol,

I would like to see them stock, custom mild/wild. I am presently in the process of building a 1993 Mustang convertable for a friend to be as close as i can posably make it to his 1:1 car, at the same time he wants me to make a second one to be off the wall custom to more or less show what he could do to his car in the future

This is a replica of my 1:1 2004 Mach 1,kit bashed with a 1994 GT

This one didnt turn out all that good, this was the first one I put together since about 1990,so it was good practice

A 1996 Cobra convertible built in that same year to replicate my father's 1:1.

A 1993 LX "hatch" built around 1998 to replicate a 1:1 that I owned at the time.  The LX body parts (front & rear bumper fascias), cowl hood center and '93 Cobra style wing were all made entirely from extra plastic shapes I had laying around.

Its a bad picture, but this was first model. Built sometime in the early 2000's, rebuilt January 09.

Thanks, Abell.  Your's both look great too!  How did you go about fabricating your LX bumpers and wing?

Thanks,  Here is a better pic of the front bumper :

It involved LOTS of trial, and error, and patience. It began as a stock GT bumper cover, I cut out the middle part, and added strip styrene for the surround, and then the LX bar. (The LX Bar is from an F150 grill.) I then sanded the molding down in the middle and added the Mustang lettering from the side skirt of a Mustang GT convertible. Then I removed the entire bottom section, and custom made it.  That part took the most time. i then cast it, so i wouldn't have to do it again. (The molding lost some definition in the casting though, unfortunately.)

The rear spoiler was made by using the hatch from an older kit, and adding a top.

You say you are doing a '93 Convertible? Is it a Limited Edition, by chance?

This one will be a Vibrant Red 92 LE when I get around to finishing it. (I need to order some 5 spoke wheels.)

Okay, so mine's more of a race car than a muscle car, but I thought I'd add it anyway!

On the bench:  '63 Studebaker Avanti.

Nice work!  Sounds very similar to the way I did mine.  Started with the MPC '87 GT kit, cut the middle and bottom of the front bumper off, and scratchbuilt the lower portion.  Lots of filing, filler and massaging to get it to look decent.  Good call casting yours.  I wish I'd done that with mine, but I wasn't aware of how to do such things by myself back in '98 - heh.  Thanks for the detail pics.
