Mercury Comet
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, April 04, 2004 10:55 AM
This is one of the very few cars I have decided to build(I mostly build trucks). It is the AMT Mercury Comet Cyclone kit.

It has the 390 FE and a C6. The car will probably remain flat black, but I will add some bare metal foil. I'm not sure if I will regret the flat black or not yet. More pics to come.

EDIT: It's gonna take a while to finish the body. Apparently chrome foil is a rare commodity. I only found black chrome and gold. I guess I will have to order it. Oh, and I just spent more money on a wired distributor for this car than I did the kit. Big Smile

Be sure to check the frame fit, mine sat like a three legged dog! It still sits a little funny, I waited till then end to check it and did not want to mess it up to bad. Good luck on yours and keep us posted.

i think the flat black might be cool. especially with some stickers on the rear windows.

I went to a "gentleman's club" because the sign said they had all the hottest models. I thought it was a hobby shop. Man, was I ever disappointed.

Yep, the frame on this car has been kind of a pain.

I was thinking of some red pinstriping, but so far that has been harder to do than it seems (Adobe Photo Deluxe took a dump on me and MS Paint is no good for stuff this intricate). I will probably get some rub on decals for it. The local hobby shop has a bunch.

Yeah. I was going to put some wider aftermarket wheels on it, but it ended up requiring way too much modification.

New pic...

I was originally going to build another unwired engine, but I figured since this one was not something very rare or treasured (like my Lindberg Explorer Sport which has hardly been touched), I may as well try out putting plug wires in. The distributor is kind of a mess, but the wires are about right as far as placement. They might not be dead on, but most of them go to the right plug. Big Smile It was kind of a rough job as far as wiring, but you have to start somewhere. The suspension is a little trickey to install, but not too difficult. I'm pretty happy with how the underside of the car came out.

Sign - Ditto It does! Have you thought of the Gt style wheels off a Mustang, they were an option on the Comet . Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

I've been looking at wheels, but haven't found much. The stockers are not too bad, I just like the way they look on my Ram 50 and would like to use them there! I will probably dig around online to try and get some nice wheels and tires for it.
