A 1971 GTO?
Posted by RL FROST III on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 8:38 AM

A friend of mine asked about building a 1971 GTO for him, and wondered if I had one. I don't and I can't seem to be able too find one, so if you fellow builders could help me out and let me know if there is such a model and if I could aquire one, thanks

I believe MPC did a '71 GTO annual.

As far as I know, it hasn't been re-issued since 1971, and my presumption is that an original kit would be very difficult and quite expensive to find.

You might have to go with a '72 and call it good.

I have a 72 GTO, MPC 1-0748, that I am willing to part with.

Thanks Steve for getting back, and your right it was impossible to find, also I don't know what somebody would want for one, but more than I would pay I'am sure

My guess is that for a complete, unbuilt kit, you would likely be looking at anywhere between $200.00 and $300.00!

WOW, you have to be kidding! I have never seen a kit for that much. I guess that's why I can'y find a 71 GTO. So I have been collecting the wrong kits this whole time. LOL Thanks again for the information

That's not unusual for rare annual kits.

Another option would be this "Doyusha" '71 GTO kit.

There are several of these on ebay at the moment, but even most of these are priced close to $200.00.

This one has a "buy it now" price of $65.00.

Of course I can't vouch for how good this kit is, and personally I wouldn't spend $65.00 on a Japanese kit of an American car.

To date they have been notoriously inaccurate.

Still have no idea why all of the literature in this obvious '71 kit say "The 1964 GTO".
