1968 Chevelle SS
Posted by Retro Joe on Thursday, April 25, 2019 7:54 PM

Haven't been around these parts in awhile, mostly posting on the Facebook model car builders group. However, I was so excited about my latest build, I wanted to share it here. First of all, this is the newly-released Revell kit (I bought it the day the first shipment arrived at my local hobby shop in January). It is quite possibly the finest kit I've seen. I am totally impressed with the quality, detail and perfect fit of every part!

I'll start with some in-progress photos, then feature the completed photos at the end.

Here's what I started with (also including wheels, tires & brakes from Revell's 1965 Chevy Pickup kit):

Chassis (with separate frame, which makes painting & detailing so nice:

After a shot of Gray lacquer primer, I put on some Tamiya Gold (TS-21):

Then came a few coats of Tamiya Clear Red (TS-74):

Engine in Chevy Orange (actually Hugger Orange lacquer, since that is what I had on hand). Exhaust manifolds are Tamiya Light Gunmetal. Oil filter decal comes with the kit!:

Interior work, with peel-and-stick felt for the carpet:

Completed interior. Seat belts made from folded masking tape with Detail Master hardware:

Rolling chassis:

Wow!  What a gorgeous color. When you say Tamiya clear red do you mean the red for taillights?  The number on my bottle of clear red is X27.  I have never been able to airbrush any of these clears wihout it threading like cotton candy when it comes out of the airbrush. Can you tell me what you did?

Beautiful Chevelle Joe. The colour is stunning. Good to see one of your builds on the forum again.

Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

Thankyou for the info. I didn't know that you can by spray cans of that.  Now if I could just find a hobby store around here.........
