1/12 scale 2012 Shelby GT500 basket case build
Posted by Dale Gribble on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 11:10 PM

bought a lot of models from a fellow so I could get my hands on this kit . Sadly it was started already , poorly ..... I had to disassemble the engine , sand out all the mold lines on the body and prep for a skilled rebuild . I didn't get a before photo on the engine , so the during will have to suffice . There will be a lot of before /after pics to see .... It was ROUGH coming out of the box ... New taillights are already on the way, as the kit parts were painted black on both sides ... Enjoy!

"rare" kit? no such thing!

build it, dont let it sit on the shelf.....

you cant take it with you, hearses dont have luggage racks......

Stripped off the red in my brake fluid pond . Then filler prime , wetsand and a tri stage pearl teal -  blue base , teal pearl mid coat  ( not an OEM Shelby Color ) laid out nicely . Waiting on my clear to arrive . I use 2k clear with Hardner on everything .

Big Smile Me again !

Love that colour , suits it .

youre the only one who drops by to show me some love on my builds , thanks !

Heres an an update of the basket case .... I dullcoted the wheels , flocked and detail painted the interior , detail painted the underhood areas . Progress is moving along at a fast pace . ..  It's a lot nicer than the plain flat black te

Here's the before shots of the interior pan and seats when I purchased the kit ..... 1000% improvement . It was poorly built , mold lines , cr hand painted stripes in the seats and dash ...

Dry fit all the major assemblies today . No issues encountered . Still waiting on my 2k clear order . I should have bought local .

That interior is a major improvement!  How do you like that big scale? I understand any flaws are highly noticeable which means accuracy and care is a big neccesity. Which you are obviously being. The biggest I will ever do is 1/20, and I've only done one of those. The engine bay sure looks good too

I like oddball stuff and large scale certainly fits the bill! I have a bunch of 1/8 scale kits , so working in 1/12 is like a 1/25 car to me ! They are a lot easier if your eyes are starting to give you fits , as everything is so much bigger , but as you say , the Detailing has to be on point . Give A large scale a try , you might be suprised ....

Hello Dale, Just found this thread.  I think you are doing a fine job.

I saw that kit at Hobby Lobby and wondered about it.  Thanks for sharing your build.  Gives all of us a sneak peek.

Just keep picking away at it...
