New to the forum, 17 year building hiatus over!
Posted by GlueSniffer on Sunday, April 22, 2018 7:34 PM

Hey everyone! New to the forum! Hoping to learn some new stuff from everyone, and possibly share some of my own!

I am a full time concours classic car restorer / fabricator specializing in sheet metal fab and metal forming! I just got back into scale model building after a 17 year hiatus and it’s wild to see how much the hobby has changed!

I am about 65% complete with my ”first” build which is a AMT reissue 1975 Chevy “Rescue Van” that I am building and a light commercial vehicle. I already have a stock pile of kits forming from commercial vans, to cackle car fuel dragsters, to 1940s coupes, as well as ‘71 Road Runner to build for my father. I’ll have my hands full for a while! But mostly I enjoy building custom/ commercial vans of the 60’s - the 80’s.

Here is a few pics of my current first build! Underside is complete with weathering, surface rust, undercoating, oil drips, oil ”sling line” from the tail shaft seal, added parking brake cables, corrected steering geometry. Also put subtle flat spots in the tires to simulate “air pressure bulge” at the bottoms... and a new muffler!

I had to scratch build a windshield gasket from styrene since it lacked any sort of molding. Added seat belts and duct tape to the drivers seat bolsters as well as cracks in the dash. Will be scratch building door panels and side windows. Also needs some form of paneling in the back although not highly visible. Still just in primer, not wet sanded yet for the base coat. Corrected some missing body panel lines as well.

Growing collection.

Welcome to the forum, Sniffer, and congratulations on reaching the conclusion of your hiatus. Nice weathering on the van chassis. Enjoy the forum. Cheers
