New to the group
Posted by SW Erdnase on Friday, February 23, 2018 12:02 PM

Hello all,

I’m a new member to the group.

I am getting back into model building after a 25 year layoff. I enjoy building cars of all types but have a drag racing background so drag racing and muscle cars are what I enjoy most.

At best I would rate myself as a step above a novice model builder but with an extensive knowledge of building 1:1 race cars.

Looking forward to getting into the swing of things!

I am among the many who got away for awhile (again), then returned.

Welcome back.  You'll find your previous skills will return and you might find a new one or two while you're at at it.  You'll also find lots of helpful people on the forum.

Thanks Big Gary for reaching out to me. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish and I’ll take as much help from the forum  group as I can get. Looking on line at a few of the projects is a little intimidating to say the least. But, I’m up for diving in with both feet!

You can build models with your feet?!?   kidding. Seriously though, welcome to the forum. With your background in 1/1 it will be interesting to see what you start detailing.

No telling what you can do with your feet if that's all you got. You may have seen an article about the guy who is an engineer for Richard Hendrick's NASCAR TEAM.. He has no arms, his computer keyboard is on the floor, and he drives a pristine '64 Impala as his daily driver.

I have not see that. Us humans are certinly amazing, especially when facing a challange. But as Orwell said, some are more equal or in this case more amazing, than others.

I purchased my first airbrush, compressor and spray booth. Boy things have gotten expensive! My first project upon reentery into the hobby is to repaint an old build, Boyd's CheZoom.

I disassembled the car (it came apart easily after 18-20 years of curing) and placed it in Super Clean to remove the paint. I searched online and found that many use it. We'll see if it works for me. Stay tuned...

Welcome to the forum, SW. Many of us here have returned to the hobby after a long hiatus, myself included. Looking forward to seeing your projects. Cheers.

Wellcome!

I have some drag race experience too, and some folk race style dirt racing too.

You tube has some good videos on airbrushing by people who know what they're talking about.

I ordered the DVDs from Donn Yost but havent seen them nor have I gotten a reply from the three e-mails I sent. Has anyone had issues ordering from Yost / Old man models?

I have always enjoyed the hobby, Im more into light and medium duty truck building,  and have recently gotten back into the hobby. Does any one know of any good resources for resin body conversions?
