Getting back to building
Posted by Paul L on Monday, September 09, 2019 1:29 AM

Hi all, I was an avid builder as a kid and into my late 20s. I built 1/25 scale cars and trucks and later 1/8 scale motorcycles. I'm now 68 and retired and decided to get back into the hobby. I still have my collection of kits and scratch builts from the old days. I found all my tools and a number of new kits still in the box.
I've been perusing the interweb and I'm amazed at how much has changed in the years I've been away. For example, I found an old bottle of Testor's paint that is marked .69 cents!
I started a subscription to Scale Auto and have purchased a few new kits. My plan is to build a diorama of the pits and starting line of a drag strip. I was always a detail freak and look forward to continuing where I left off.

Thanks Chucky, another member almost local to me (I'm in CT). Right now I'm in the design stage, making sketches and collecting kits and accesories.
I'll be sure to post updates as I get into the project. I thought it was going to be 'easy' but as detail fussy (anal) as I am it's going to be a big project.

Welcome to the forum, Paul, and welcome back to the hobby. That sounds like a very interesting diorama project. Looking forward to seeing it come alive. Cheers.

Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

Thanks Trevor, the insanity has already started...lol
Two of the vehicles I planned on using are getting the evil eye. I'm looking at turning a '57 Ford wagon into a Ranchero and a '34 Ford PU into a crew cab truck. Both would be tow vehicles for race cars in he pits.
I have a problem leaving things as they are...
