i have built/sold nascars in the 89/90's. i figured about $20.00 for kit/paint etc. more if aftermarket decals etc. were involved. got $70-$75 per. about a break even deal at the time considering my time.  Sigh

Unlike you guys, I'm not sentimental about my builds. I sell everything I build on eBay just as soon as I'm done with it. And I don't do my accounting the same way. I like building models and am indifferent about collecting and/or displaying them. I sell what I build in order to finance more kits and more supplies and it seems to work out okay for me. I do pretty decent work and use a lot of photoetch stuff, but I'm not a super-detail builder so it isn't like I'm putting thousands of hours and hundreds of dollars into each build. And, while I'd like to be getting more money for my builds, what I do get covers pretty much what I want to spend.

Hi ya cruz, I don't think I would ever consider selling a kit that I built, they are pricele$$ to me, lol. That said, lets look at things in a money spent way, just for S's&G's...

1. Average Revell kit                  $25.00

2. 1 Can of Testors Primer         $5.00 (for the Body)

3. 1 Can of Testors Paint           $5.00 (for the Body)

4. 1 Can of Testors Clear           $5.00 ( for the Body)

5. 1 Tube of CA/Supier Glue      $2.00 (could be more or less, depending on what you use)

6. 1 Can of Testors Black Paint  $5.00 (for chassis or interior)

7. Misc. other paints/glues         $2.00

8. Misc. Parts box items            $3.00

                                WOW     $52.00

...and you haven't even considered your time, different and/or more expensive paint, polishing items, other kits used for kitbashing and aftermarket parts Dead

Kinda sick when you think about it that way, but it is still cheaper than a most other hobbies and it makes my wife happier than if I had spent it at the local watering hole, lol Make a Toast Laugh

Toss that stupid diecast in the recycle bin and build something !

Considering the amount of time you put into these things, what price tag would you put? I mean, some people are more talented than others while some are just clean builders and don't have to put much aftermarket stuff on the models to make them great. I would like to sell some of my stuff but in reality, I know I will be regreting it, not that I consider myself a great model builder but I do put a lot of time on my models.....
