Buick Regal Stock Car
Posted by Dr.Oldsmobile on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 4:06 PM

Hi, Everyone I was recently at a model car swap meet and came across a Buick Regal stock car body. I bought it complete with the Mountain Dew decals, head lights, windows and spoiler. Does anybody know what a good kit would be to finish it? I tried a few different modern stock car kits but they didn't realley work. Any help would be apreciated.

The most popular Buick Regal Nascar kits came from Monogram, (issued mid-1980's to late-1980's). There was a Daryl Waltrip version, with the Mountain Dew decals you mentioned. These kits were issued in 1/24 scale, and along with the Nascar Chevy Monte Carlo, (which had a similar body style to the Buick), the Ford Thunderbird, and the Pontiac Grand Prix, were the most common Nascar kits of the era. If your body came from the Monogram kit, finding any of the Chevy or Pontiac kits listed above will yield you an accurate racing engine/chassis/wheels/tires to put underneath your Buick Regal body. These Monogram kits can still be found in many places. I know a Nascar Buick Regal was also issued by MPC in 1/25 scale, (issued early-1980's to mid-1980's; not very common/hard-to-locate), but this kit had a more-vintage/less accurate racing engine/chassis/wheels/tires in it. I have also thought the Regal body in this MPC kit had some roof-proportion problems, (looked too tall to me). Hope this info helps.

On the bench:  '63 Studebaker Avanti.

I jus recently purchased the kit you refer to the # 11 Darrell Waltrip M/D Stock car. I've looked and there are very few decal sheets left on ebay, get yours now. The kist was produced many times over, this version after 1983 for monogram if I have it right. I figure if I do the dew for the last 25 years, I might as well own the model!

thanks
