how to use wire looms?
Posted by Spark10 on Friday, August 21, 2020 2:41 PM

I have searched and cannot find anything. what are the basics of spark plug looms? Mainly what is the best way to attach the photo etch part to the valve cover. I see people using them but no real instructions. Thanks. back in hobby after 20 year hiatus.

Is t necessary to attach them to the valve cover? I've never used aftermarket or PE looms, but presumably they have a tab that reaches down to the valve cover? If so, I would suggest using pliers or a PE bending device to bend a small, 90 degree bit on the lower end of the tab, then glue that to the valve cover with a bit of CA glue.

As I said, I never use these, and so I'm trying to imagine what they actually look like. I'm just imagining the 1:1 units.

But speaking of 1:1, none of my cars have had aftermarket looms attached to the valve cover, so my models don't either. I never cared for the type that are affixed tot eh valve cover. I make looms from .005" plastic sheet and a 1/64" or #78-#79 drill bit, insert the wires, and let the loom hang free.

Yes they do have a small tab. I like the idea of the .005 sheet. I do now have several looms to use up. I will post some photos when I get that far.
