Metal Model Nightmare;
Posted by Metalbender on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 8:15 AM

      I have acquired a Die-Cast Model of the second year KIA SOUL. Should I create a Custom Pick-Up out of it? The nightmare is this. I want to do it, But, I paid almost a $100.00 bucks for this thing with tax. It's metal and except for real cars and a resto or two of Die Cast, I haven't tried anything like this with metal in model form.

    What if I fail? I can't afford to buy another! Restoring is one thing ( or correcting if you will) but Re-Modeling. What if the paint won't stick or whatever?

I wouldn't let the fact that the model is metal hold you back. Metal is just another model medium. Some of the techniques are bespoke to the medium though most are not, and the soft metal die-cast models are made from is pretty easy to work with. Use epoxy and/or CA adhesives, JB Weld or similar for filler, primer & paint made for metal such as Duplicolor, and pick up a couple 4" files to work the metal. I say, "Go for it".
