What size wire would work?
Posted by NewB71 on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 3:42 PM

I have a couple of 1\25 scale big rig tractors that I am thinking of adding wire to represent air lines and electric but am unsure as to what size to use.Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

My personal choice is 24 gauge telephone wire. If you want to make coiled lines then I suggest using solid conductor wire wrapped around a 1/8" diameter rod or even a screwdriver shaft to make the coils. The solid wire will keep it's shape after it's wrapped. If your looking for just a plain non-coiled line then stranded line cord will work.

Is that the same phone wire that is used to connect phone to jack? What did you use for electric plug and glad hands?

By the way nice job on the tractor.

I didn't think of it when I made my reply but you might want to check out AITM (Dave Natale)-

He has gladhands included with his lines.

As for the phone wire, the wire used to hook up a phone to a jack is a stranded conductor and is most commonly known as line cord. The solid wire is from cable used inside of walls and ceilings in houses. It can also be called Cat 3 or Cat 5 Tel/Data cable
