Returning to the fold...
Posted by mrmike on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 8:10 AM

I have noticed that we have some older members returning to the forum after taking a haitus for family and life.  I certainly hope that they stick around and add to the forum since many members are going away to other places and adventures.  My hope is for the forum to return to a more active status like it use to be especially since some of the rules used to govern the forum have been relaxed a bit.  Yes, posting pictures still requires a photohosting site which is not a big deal for me, but can be for others.  But, we still have great builders here and they have a wealth of knowledge to pass on to others.

I have noticed that too, Mike, as well as a fairly steady influx of new blood, and I am very glad to see it. Like you, I would like forum participation restored to past levels. People have left for many reasons, as has been discussed here a few times. But getting the newbies and the returning members to stay, and more importantly, participate in a meaningful way, will require a much more streamlined photo posting process. I see it as the biggest deterent to forum participation. People just don't need to jump through those hoops any more on other forums, and they shouldn't have to here. Years ago I defended the practice when it was common on these kinds of forums, but it is an antiquated method today. If SA is serious about maintaining this forum (and I hope they are) then the photo posting process needs to be revamped.

Hoping for a more active forum also.  Do not really like using off-site photo posting.  But one advantage is it sort of limits the number of photos someone will post.  On other forums some builders will post as many as 15-20 photos of a build, some doubles, others just a couple degrees different position.  There is no real need for that many photos, four or five well placed shots will get the point of any build across.  Hoping for the best here.  It is rather disheartening to open the froum and see the last post was posted two or three days ago.

I agree on the number of pictures to post in a thread.  Too many people go overboard by taking a picture, move a couple of degrees, take another picture, and so on.  A streamlined picture process would be nice, but this site doesn't make any money for Kalmback Publishing, so any improvements made will be at Kalmbach's discretion.  I know that we (the participating members) would appreciate actual improvements made to this forum, thereby keeping it active for years to come.  For now, I'd be happy just to see a return of active and participating members to this forum.

I pretty much echo the sentiments, but I have no problem using a hosting site. Never had any probelms with servimg.com
