Testors Automotive Paints
Posted by mrmike on Thursday, June 6, 2019 12:07 PM

I just got back from my Local Hobby Shop and they have signs all over the store saying that Testors is cancelling their automotive paint line.  I was told that this is something that he was told by his boss and he knew nothing more about it.  They have a sign over the automotive paint rack telling that this rack of paint is going away and it appears to be all enamel paints, and I use only the small jars for brush paint.  Their enamel sprays seem to lack pigment, so I stay away from those, instead favoring their lacquer paints for car bodies.  I just searched Testors website and found no mention of this.

Does anyone have any concrete information about this and which paint they are going to eliminate?

It has been almost a week and I haven't got an answer which tells me that no one knows.  Thank you everyone.

I reached out to Testors, and just received this response:

"Thank you for contacting Rust-Oleum Product Support.

Many of the Model Masters colors have been discontinued due to low volume sales and request from the market place. The product line is still available but the color options are becoming more limited especially in the 1/2 oz bottles. The spray cans are easier to find with Hobby Lobby and also Hobbylinc.com.

Thank you for your interest in Rustoleum products. We hope this information was helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact us if any additional assistance is needed.

Regards,

Jim H"

I replied asking if this will also affect the Lacquer sprays.  I'll let you know what his response is to that.

Personally, I think Modelmaster enamels will not be around very much longer.  They discontinued the whole military and figure enamel line and now their auto line seems to be disappearing.

It's too bad, as I grew up with modelmasters and continued to use them when I got back in the hobby.  I have since switched to Tamiya paints and Scalefinishes for car bodies.

HHmmm... this is very interesting and potentially dire news. I think I should stock up a on a few of my most used colours.

I wonder if the metaliser paints will be discontinued as well.
