Sunlight and Contours - what you see
Posted by oldcarguy on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 10:20 AM

I know;

     There occured to me an idea . Look at the newer cars .See the contours ? What is it about some that stand out ? Buick has some interesting ones .So does Honda and Toyota .Plain cars? For the most part , Yes .

     Okay , say you want to paint a Toyota sporty coupe and make it stand out. How to make it stand out ? After cleaning up the body and priming it , coat it with a thin layer of silver .Sure this is weird .Now look at the contours in different light .

  See how the light falls off some ridges and curves .You want them to stand out ? Heres how . Paint a frost coat or two of the color you have chosen wether over the silver or white or grey base.

    Now pick out those contours .How ? On top shoot a light line of silver then another coat of your base color .Under that feature paint a slight fog or a darker mix of the same .Now paint it on the bottom of the feature .

    When done with two or three final mist coats of your base color you will notice those features stand out better .This will set your car part from the others .believe me .It will be subtle but noticeable .

    I wish I had the photos to show , but I didn't get that new camera for Christmas after all .   Old Car Guy
