And Ambitious project.
Posted by KevinR on Saturday, June 23, 2018 9:38 AM

Hi: A very long time since i posted. Recently I have tried doing some resin casting to build small parts like distributors and wheels. Now I want to resin cast a replica of my Subaru Outback. I guess I could probably source a resin body on the internet, but this I would like to try. Do anyone here think that this is too ambitious? How would you go about starting it? I assume as many pictures as possible and lots of measurements? I know a lot of trial and error is involved, but I am willing to put the time into it.

Thanks

Smile

Making the master is going to take some work. i usually base mine off an existing kit to modify, rather than going from scratch. if you can find something that is close, it will save you a lot of effort. The techniques you use will be the same for modifying parts.

i made my Mazda Famila 1200 wagon, which is not available in 1/24 at all, so there might be some ideas for you there. http://cs.scaleautomag.com/sca/modeling_subjects/f/35/t/126885.aspx

The key to large sized casting is 99% preparation and planning.
Here's some good tips for doing a cast of a master that i found useful.
