Help with Tamiya decals
Posted by JimmyWethington on Friday, September 15, 2017 8:06 AM

Everytime I use Tamiya decals, I end up tearing them.  I don't have this problem with decals from any kits other than Tamiya.  Am I doing something wrong?  I've searched for YouTube videos with little luck.

I find that Tamiya decals are a bit thinner than other decals.  I would suggest that you use plenty of water on your Tamiya decals.  Be sure they soak in water a little longer than necessary, almost to the point where they would float off the paper backing and make sure the model surface is really wet with water so they can slide off the paper backing easily and can be positioned without tearing.

I use Solvaset and only if I really need it.  I use it on difficult corners and angles.  I apply my decals with lots of water, then I wick off the excess water with a paper towel and then I press the decal on with the damp towel in its final position.  If the decal needs some Solvaset, I spread some on with the supplied applicator and let it set up a bit and then "work it" onto the body.
