"New" Flashback re-release AMT 1957 Ford
Posted by Alcopa1 on Sunday, April 23, 2017 11:35 AM

Hi Guys!

Just picked up the latest re-release of the AMT '57 Ford Fairlane Hardtop "Flashback" ...Lots of goodies are back on the trees! Of note is the '57 Desoto Grille, the original four Diamond pleat custom bucket seats , the baby moons ,the lake pipes , the deep open wheels and the full blower setup along with the custom vertical headlight pods! One slight disappointment is that the small nerf bars, the blower "pressure box" and the dual headlights never made it back onto the chrome tree (Alclad here we come)  and I was really hoping for a set of those most excellent Firestone Super Sport Wide oval tires that came in some of the earlier AMT/ERTL versions , but there are a very nice set of pad printed slicks and wide whites . Overall in my view this is problably the best this kit will ever be considering its long life ...secretly I was hoping for a full re-release with all of the old Styline Parts etc. but this will certainly do.....

I built an original edition of that kit, at about age ten or eleven. I also have one here, painted and partially started. I'm tempted to get one of the re-issues, but what I really wish Round Two would revive is the Bonneville version. I found one of these in a local hobby and crafts shop, back in 1975. It was the second kit I bought for myself, and the first model I spray painted. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. Dinner

This is one of my favorite kits and have built many and entered some of them in contests with successful results over the years.  The '57's I built of course were those originally issued and a couple from the 'gold" box. When I saw that AMT/Ertl/R2 was reissuing a new kit, incorporating the old parts I thought, "GREAT".  I haven't seen them in my hobby shop yet, as I patronize hobby shops first, then box houses second.

I go back to '62 or '63 when they were first issued, and these had working doors, chassis detail and was accurately proportioned. My favorite model was one I sectioned back then and now being re-done for the upcoming contest season.

I want to thank AMT R2 for reissuing some of my old favorite models in the past few years, and this '57 is no exception. I plan to buy a couple of the "new" kits to make one showroom stock, a street cruiser and possibly a gasser to augment my redone sectioned custom.

I will hopefully post pictures of when it is done.  I am in the process of getting a new computer which will make my posts and photos easier to publish.

This spammer must have some type of grudge with someone at SA, what else could it be? I'm not computer savy but to register under all these different names and to have all these different e-mails for the confirmation to be sent to....Mind boggling

Not trying to beat a dead horse here, but obviously the Report function just doesn't work. Either the report is not going thru or it's going to someone that no longer has anything to do with the forum. I know Robby said it was going to be a while, but sometimes I wonder if this forum can survive if this doesn't get rectified soon.
