Seriously? Renewal?
Posted by mrmike on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 11:04 AM

So Scale Auto is ending after the October 2020 issue.  Then , what the heck is this?

I just pulled this out of the mailbox this morning.  Does Kalmbach know what it is doing?  The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing?  And, people wonder why I have been angry for days?  I know that in the past I have tried Fine Scale Modeler magazine and I didn't care for it since it had hardly any car models in it.  Unless Kalmbach adds a lot more car models to FSM, I won't be subscribing to that magazine.  Nothing like p***ing off long time subscribers to Scale Auto Magazine!

I'm with you, mrmike. I tried FSM a couple years back and while some may like it, I found it contained too much aircraft and military stuff for me, which I'm just not interested in.

I've been a loyal subscriber to SA since I think 1993, and so I happily renewed my subscription earlier this year until June 2022, and am disappointed that it's now ending.  I'll see how FSM goes, but unless they add a decent whack of auto modelling with articles by some of 'our' regulars, I'm gonna be an unhappy old bloke.

Here in Australia, we have just recently had a number of local magazines go under, but I would have expected SA to survive, with it's worldwide subscribers.  The situation is a real letdown.  Regards.

Before too many vent their disappointment, anger, whatever, many renewal requests are churned out by computer these days and often by third party companies as contracted out work. I guess that the decision to stop production of Scale Auto was very recently taken, so any out sourcing of services may not be up to speed yet with the current decision to have reacted to it already.

Chill out guys. Unfortunately it is a sign of the times. Many of us old timers are saddened by all this, but many auto modelling magazines have come and gone over the years, both in the US and in the UK where I live.

Noel, I am angry and disappointed that my favorite magazine is ending.  But, getting the renewal in the mail was a slap in the face!  I'm trying to vent that anger and frustration!  Where should I do it, MCM forum?  I don't think so!  They are a different entity and have nothing to do with this magazine and they have their own issues.

I got the same re-up in the mail, day before it all went dark. I was going to let it lasp and re-up at the half price they were offering, should have known something was up when they were giving away subs. So tell me where do ya go for new kit reviews or find out about new kits at all, there are no shows or other mags worth getting, Car Modeler stinks even when you could get a copy

There is a group in Atlanta called Model Car Round up that sells model kits etc. They often have new releases posted in their ads so you can get on the email list and they will let you know about new kits etc. Before I found Scale Auto, I used Hot Rod magazine for a lot of my inspiration on building models. However that publication does not have how to and articles on model building. Scale Auto has been the best resource so it might benefit you to contact them and purchase the past issues on CD rom. I have kept every paper issue since 2001 and there is a lot to learn from past issues.

Did you really expect that announcement post to be left unlocked? Think about it for a minute. Your taking out your frustration and anger on the wrong person. Tim is only the messenger, and as the old saying goes, "don't shoot the messenger"
