Tis a Sad Day
Posted by Metalbender on Thursday, July 16, 2020 11:38 AM

In my many years;

      I have seen Wooden Car models disappear,I have seen the same in Wood Planes. Not so much Wood Boats. Now many were the times I would buy Hot Rod and or Rod and Custom. Why? they ran articles on how to build a model of a car that had been in the Magazine. Although they are still around, Most real car mags are fully a third of their space as ads.

     Why? It cost a great deal to put out any Mag nowadays. For instance the D'Agostino ads in the last issue. Multiple full pages! That cost a bundle. But, the modelers would not be satisfied with 32 pages ( Like the old Comics) with the remaining 28 pages being ads. It is a sad note for sure. My issues of Scale Auto and Fine Scale Modeler kept me from going to the nut house while I recovered from Open Heart surgery.

       Well; the world turns and electronics have cornered the market place. Remember they said they would get cheaper as they got more precise and computer fast.( That was B.S.! ! ) But, Now you can( Not that I would) Buy a car from a six or eight story Vending Tower! If I can't sit in it, Touch it and Hear it Run, I don't want nuttin to do wid it!

       Kalmbach are to be lauded for hanging in with the beloved mag. I am going to miss her. Fine scale modeler it is I guess .Well, some years back I lost Scale Ship Modeler too! As long as I have somewhere to spout and share I'll keep going! Oh, and I will still let my imagination flow over the fenders of the model cars I will still buy. Why? Well at least they're still making them!
