Update on that new book on collecting Muscle Car Model Kits...
Posted by Tim Boyd on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 1:43 PM

You all may have seen the item on the Scale Auto Facebook page last Wednesday, December 6, suggesting that the new book "Collecting Muscle Car Model Kits" would be a cool gift idea for the holidays.   It was also shown in the "New Products" section of the December 2018 issue of SA.  As the author of that book, all I can say is "thanks Mark and Robby" for the mentions.

If you'd like to know a little more about the book, including how Scale Auto played a key role in the development of the book, check out my post and the images at this link.

Also, I noted one comment to the Facebook post suggesting that model kits are for building, not collecting.  To each, his own, of course.  But my own view is that kits are for both collecting and/or building.  I do both, and I suspect that many Scale Auto readers do as well.  Not to mention, but to mention (smile) at the end of most chapters in the book there is a sidebar called"Muscle Car Scale Showroom" that shows images of built versions of a number of the kits pictured in each chapter.  Here's an example...

Thanks for your interest, and let me know if you have any questions or comments....TIM

PS - The article "Personal Luxury Kit History" in the upcoming February 2019 issue of Scale Auto will provide SA readers and subscribers with further info on a somewhat similar genre of model car kits.  Hope you enjoy it...TB

UPDATE as of 7 January 2019...

1) I was notified today that the book is going to have a second print run. The publisher is going to incorporate a few minor edits/corrections in the reprint. I think we've caught about all of them, but if anyone sees an error or omission please let me know by 15 January by responding to this post, or sending me a private message.

2) Check out the new February 2019 issue of Scale Auto for the "Personal Luxury Kit History" article. A portion of this article was originally written and photographed to be an additional chapter in this "Collecting Muscle Car Model Kits" book. My original book text went way over on word and photo count, so I had to cut some material, including the kit histories behind the Buick Riviera, Olds Toronado and 2-seat Thunderbirds (which all offered a number of performance-based, but little known derivatives that could be duplicated using the AMT, MPC, and JoHan kits and some mild kitbashing).

After completing the book, I took this unused material and added kit info on the 4-seat Ford Thunderbirds and Cadillac Eldorado, and expanded the Riviera and Toronado material.

Mark and Robby agreed it would make a good article topic....so read on and enjoy!

Thanks.....TIM

When you get your copy of the book, send me a PM and I will send you a list of the corrections.  There are very few, and they are very minor in nature.  And thanks for your purchsse...TIM

Not sure how to PM You, as the only communication I use is e-mail.

I have your book as it was the only thing I asked my wife to get me for Christmas!

I purchased your first book, back in 2001! Collecting model car and truck kits! I enjoy them both very much!

This is my e-mail address if that is a way you can send me the updates!

Thank You
