Revell '66 Chevy Suburban
Posted by Big Gary on Sunday, December 24, 2017 4:02 AM

Walked in to Hobby Lobby today with Christmas bonus in hand and found all plastic models 20% off. I picked up the '66 Suburban, which someone on this forum has built, and couldn't wait to dig into it.

This is an awesome kit.  I've only bought one other new issue kit in the last ten years and both surprised me with the details provided.  There are decals for the factory upholstery, license plates, a lot of under hood detail, and decals for two different vehicles if you want to make it a commercial vehicle.

I do, however, think it needs to be lowered, big and little tires, and a Chevy big block.

We'll see!

Yep, great kit. Did you know you don't have to settle for the 20% off at Hobby Lobby? I told them I'd pay full price and use the 40% coupon. Better deal. Why get 5 off when you can get 10?

I don't shop at Hobby Lobby very often, and given the number of unbuilt kits I have, it may be awhile.

I found the engine I wanted for the suburban, a Big Block Chevy with a blower and headers (that I hope fit), to go in the engine bay.  I also located the wheels I want to use, from the Revell '55 Chevy drag car, the one with the clear hood scoop.  I also have the rear axle, ladder bars, and other pieces, some of which I may not use.   This is, after all, supposed to be pro STREET.

If you don't need the kit's engine, I'll take it off your hands.

The engine can be yours, but I couldn't find a message link for you.  I'll see if I have one.

The Hot Rod Magazine newsletter this week showed a '65 Chevy 1 ton C-30 panel van hot rodded.  That thing is awesome and at least half again longer than the suburban. It used a 502 big block Chevy for power.

That gets my imagination going.  I would need a second Suburban kit and ...   Hmmm.

Using a copier and paper cutter, and making copies of the Suburban instructions, I've determined that it would take 3 kits to make the C30 .(my wallet just cried out in pain).  A shorter one, C20 perhaps, could be made with 2 .
