A tale of two Cobras
Posted by Lil Rebel on Saturday, March 13, 2010 1:04 PM

I really enjoyed the Cobras, but some things need to be corected for lack of a better word. Before 1966, allford engines were painted black this includes the blocks sent to shelby. the pourpose for this was twofold, to disapate heat, and to show any cracks in the blocks. The other is the issue about the exit of the "sidepipes". On the 260/289 cars the pipes exited under the body, on the 390/427,the pipes did exit through a cutout in the bodywork. Every picture I have of the factory race cars shows this including the 390 Ken Miles drove at Nassua.

I really enjoyed that article also. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I bought the AMT kit and have started gathering decals, tires/wheels, etc. in preparation for building the black Cobra in the article. I am still trying to find the front bumper brackets/ towing brackets that are prominent in the photos, but not mentioned in the article. Any clues as to where to find them? They are not included in the kit.

those are jack brackets, cut the bumpers off the the posts and use some plastic sheet to make the jack slots by cutting a "U' shape in the end. Post pics as you go please
