What's a cookie set???
Posted by justmike on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 6:24 PM

I just read the newsletter about not being able to log in for the weekend.  Thats too long for me so I want to stay in the groove with builds but don't know what a cookie set is which will allow me to post.  Help please

A cookie is a small file that a Web site puts on your computer hard disk drive when you first visit. Its job is to notify the site when you've returned.

In order to store a cookie, you need to log into the Web site. If you “close” your entire browser and then start a new one and visit the Web site “and” you are still logged into the --- you are storing cookies and will be fine.

Does this help?

"Cookies" are small data files a website automatically (and unknown to you) places onto your hard drive when you log onto that particular site. The purpose is to let your computer "remember" a site when you re-visit at a later date. Cookies allow the site to load faster, because a "memory" of that site is already stored on your hard drive, along with any preferences you may have set for that site. The site loads faster because you are not visiting and loading that site for the first time.... you already have some of the site's information on your hard drive (the "cookies").

Your web browser has settings that either allow cookies to be set by visited websites, or allow you to disable (and reject) cookies. It's your choice, but if you visit a given site over and over, you might as well enable cookies... because it makes your frequently visited site load faster.
