August Issue
Posted by flahotrod on Friday, June 25, 2004 11:13 PM
Will the next issue be considered the "August Issue"??

If so, when can we expect to see it on the magazine rack??

Usually you post information for the next issue by now, so I was just wondering if this one will be coming out around the 1st of July or sometime later.

Thanks.
I married my wife for her looks, just not the ones she gives me when I bring home new model kits.

I received my writer's copy on Thursday (6/24), and my subscription copy usually arrives a week later, so I would imagine that you would see it in your mailbox this week. (You DO subscribe, don't you??)

Thanks, Benchracer.

Not until after I posted this message did I think to look in the June issue and sure enough, it said it will be available July 7th.

No, I don't subscribe. I had problems with deliveries (torn covers, creases, sometimes late). I just let my subscription run out and now I go to my hobby shop and take a look at the models & products when I buy my new (pristine) issue.

If all things happen like they should, the Aug. issue should be on the "newsstand" July 1.

No, the newsstand date is a week to 10 days after the final mailing date. Note that's "mail" date, not "received" date. For October, the final mailing date is (was) 6/26 and the newsstand on-sale date is 7/6.

Of course, "things" can happen after mailing to cause variation in actual delivery. My Dad and I subscribed to the same modeling magazine for many years, and although we lived only 15 miles apart, there could be as many as five days' difference in when we received our copies. But that's a USPS routing/distribution thing that's out of our hands.

you should really subscribe again. it's not sa's fault the cvers were torn or creased most of the time it's the problems with the machines in the post office. i have ordered mags and catalogs from different places and sometimes got them in one piece other times them came in the mail ripped but i still subscribed or recieved the catalogs.

I did too, in Norway. You guys have to move to a different continent, then you'll get your magazine early, and nicely wrapped in a plastic bag.......

My local news stand had it on July 2.

Does Scale Auto get more money from a subscription or from the news stand? I want to help the magazine as much as possible, but I haven't had a subscription for years.

I just wish you guys would quit asking about RC and Slot cars in your survey. . .makes me nervous. Keep SA plastic model car kits.

It's a legitimate, viable question to see what other interests our readers have. But there's no reason to be "nervous" about it. We have no plans to enter into either of those areas.

Jim, I have the same question as MojoDoctor above. Does it make a difference to SA if we subscribe or buy from a news stand as long as we buy? Does the mag benifit one way more than another. I also don't subscribe but have purchased the mag from the news stands or hobby shops for years and haven't missed an issue in a long time. I've found this easier because I've moved/relocated often over the last few years but "think" I'm settled for a while now. (I hope)...

Eric,

This is one of those chicken-egg things. There are benefits to you pricewise if you subscribe, but we confess that we like to see newsstand sales too. All of these things are tracked and accounted for. And as you suggested, the main thing is that we want to produce a product that you'll want to buy regularly -- regardless of the source.

Thanks Jim, for answering my question. Funny, but the price of SA is such a small part of the cost of this hobby compared to the models, paint, tools, etc... and shipping for those things we can't find in our local hobby shops. I was just curious if one way was better than the other. Either way, I enjoy reading it and won't miss getting one if I can help it. Thanks... Eric
