Parts Box forum - virtual swap-meet?
Posted by Canada Jeff on Monday, December 01, 2003 2:58 PM
I know we've had lots of requests for additional forums, but maybe a general parts box swap-meet forum would be useful for everyone? Need a Ford 8 inch rear end that's at least 1.75 inches from flange to flange? Put an ad in the Parts Box forum, and see if anybody has one they can part with. Might be a cool way for the community to work together in a more tangible way. Just a thought.

By the way - love the site and the forums. This is the best thing I've found on the net since the HAMB.

I think that's a great idea!!!!!!!!

People can post what they need, and people can post what they can 'part' with!!!!!

i think it would help alot of us on projects and also we can find and get "hard to find" parts much easier.

that would be a fantastic idea, but could we make it a trade only theme. i know i have alot of parts that dont mean anything to me, but they could mean finishing a project for someone else. i dont get into selling parts, i think that takes away from the 'sport' of the hobby. nice idea jeffThumbs UpThumbs UpBow

Having been one of the first people to sell only parts at the St.Louis model shows, I have always traded as well as sold. It seems that no matter how much you ave, you never have what you needBanged HeadConfusedGrumpySign - Oops. I think a swap Forum would be great for all of us.I've got a few projects that have been sitting, waiting for the parts I can't seem o find at my shows or through my local friends. Hope we can get this rolling WOLF

Maybe we can move it to 'Builder's Corner' and have Admin make it a "sticky" so it's alway on top.

Let me know what y'all think?

Hey all, I have moved this to the 'Builder's Corner' category. Hopefully I can get admin to 'sticky' it.

We're going to hold off on an entire forum for this. If you need a part (a wheel for a Supra, a valve cover for a Corvette, etc.) simply ask for it or say, "I've got an extra whatever – does anyone need it?"

I highly discourage the selling of parts here. If you want to sell stuff, take out a classified ad in Scale Auto. It's too easy to get ripped off by a dishonest person over the Internet.

You can trade parts, but for now, we're not going to open an entire forum or sticky these kind of posts. And remember - trader (buyer) beware. We are not responsible for any dishonest trading activity.

I agree with andy about selling stuff, becausethe forum could beatrisk of being help liable with the right lawers...............

We don't want to loose our GREATforum over one goofbal who decides not to pay for something.............................. especially if it's someone we don't know!!!! and neverseen on this forum!!

However, i think most if not all the regs here are honest goodpeople!!

If you guys are looking for a place to buy & sell or swap parts try this Yahoo group that was started just for that purpose...

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ModelCarShop/

...you will need a Yahoo ID to participate...

...and like Andy said Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware) applies to all transactions!

It's not that we're saying that our members aren't honest, but sometimes, you get people that'll register soley for the purpose of scamming people. I've seen it happen on an number of 1:1 scale car sites. Also, things get lost in the mail, people forget to pay, and flames fly. We'd rather not deal with it here.

Currently, there's a virtural parts box thread in the Builder's Corner forum. We'll keep it open as it follows the forum guidelines.
