on line reveiw build ups
Posted by FIREMODELMAN on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 10:37 PM
how 'bout a section where we could post ups or downs on a model someone is currently building, like the section in SCALE AUTO, only on here as everyone on here does not get SA.( even though i cant imagine that )Tongue just as an example, i'm currently building the johan 59 rambler wagon, instead of using up space on other threads, we could go straight to this section if someone was wondering about a paticular model??My 2 cents maybe call it building reviews, or something along those lines?

yea kevlar, thats what i'm talking about, just like in the mag, only it would be ongoing, kind of like a group build only with one builder?i think it could be useful, maybe save someone some money if the kit being built is not up to snuff?Thumbs UpThumbs Upso what do you think ADMIN? is this on the table?

Couldn't you just put a review of a truck in the truck section and a racecar review in the racecar section? Then the people that want to read about that kind of review would see it. I'd bet most people browse most of the sections here from time to time anyway. Just my two cents.

a seperate user review section would be good as long as the reviews are constructive.
i would want a section full of "this kit is great" or "this kit sucks"
just my two cents

This sounds like an excellent idea we could even include pictures of the finished model, etc. plus we could rate each kit like they used to do in SAE (Excellent, Very Good, Fair, Poor). I don't know why they don't do that anymore.

Maybe some involved in the Community Build Project (CBP #1) would be willing to review the re-issued AMT '55 Chevy Cameo they're now building. Just a thought. Smile

See the 'Truck' section under modeling categories for the current CBP project I'm talking about.

good idea colinm! and fuya jo , i see your point , but if it were in its own catagory , people would know right where to look, some kits could fall into a couple different places, this way the entire section would be dedicated to reveiws.Thumbs UpMy 2 centsSmile

Well, I'd rather not do it, at least right now. If you have a review I also think that you should just put it in the correct category. If reviews start clogging up the other forums, then it might justify a new forum. I have seen very few reviews here as it stands, so I'm going to have to say "no" right now.

Agreed. And the reason we don't have ratings on the kit reviews is that I felt there was too much room for subjectivity. One person's "fair" is another's "poor," depending on what they were expecting from the kit. This way, we simply present what the builder found as he/she worked on the kit, and the reader can decide about the kit's viability.

Well I agree with Jim and Andy on this one. I have seen several times that a model that one person doesnt particularly care for be a model that another thoroughly enjoyed. I would rather see a post on a particular kit saying maybe what problems this person had and what they did to overcome it rather than just a rating system. And alot of what the kit includes that you might not have thought would be in there or what it didnt include that you expected.
