FSM Forum signatures...
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 10:46 PM
Wandered over to the Fine Scale Modeler message forum to see if I could pick up any ideas and noticed one glaring obnoxious annoying thing there. The signatures. Some of the signatures were just overwhelming. Mindboggling! Big huge pictures of tanks and airplanes, shooting guns, gif files that moved every second...Yikes! It got the point where I couldn't discern between the message and the signature. My eyes got buggy I'm telling ya'.

I truly hope that option doesn't make it over to this board. We don't need one guy trying to do outdo another with an even bigger picture of a '57 Chevy. Or one that drives across the bottom of the screen. Let your model building speak for you. Not a flashy signature.

i agree. that stuff is very distracting!

I went to a "gentleman's club" because the sign said they had all the hottest models. I thought it was a hobby shop. Man, was I ever disappointed.

unfortunatley, we are not allowed to have anything but text in our siggy here at SA. I am also very active at FSM, and yes i agree that some of the the pictures and such in the siggys are rediculous, i think there should be some kind of limit.....

Bit you know what??? as annoying as it can get, i have never seen anyone complain about it!!! Unlike over here, one pic in the siggy and everyone is ready to start WW3!!

I think it just shows that the people over at FSM are more layed back and not as uptight as SOME, but not all, of the people here!!!!

But, thats just me...............

Sorry if i ruffled any feathers.................

They don't bother me in the least...

It would be cool if people got creative and maybe made their own animations using their kits, and then displayed them in a modest fashion.
I have had this bug in my ear to try and put together a scale replica adventure farce film myself, lol.

If people that really like to have that option in the sig would also change their content regularly, it might be entertaining. (I find it entertaining either way, but i like artsy fartsy stuff)
But if their sig is over-bearing i may not even read what they posted, lol. Then they lost out to their own monster and never get their point of view across....

Hmmm, thinking to much like an ad-exec. again, sorry... :)

About the ruffling feathers, lol.....It appeared to me that a razor took them clean off, lol....I'm kidding of course... ;)

I guess it's okay to slam people over here as long as you say your sorry.

I don't think you were getting slammed, paul.
We all just have opinions that differ, the key is to know when a flame is being delivered and when it is just an opinion.

Text is so hard to decipher tone and attitude that many misunderstandings are spawned from forums like this.

All we need to do is respect what other people think and agree to disagree from time to time.

Happy Posting!

Paul, I didn't mean for it sound like i was slamming you, and if it did, I am truley sorry!!!

I did make some good friends here, and i have tried really hard not to tick anyone off!!

Hey i agree with you, some of those siggys are way to over bearing, the point i was trying to make is that doesn't have to happen if there was a limit!! It's just going to one extreme to another, from to big to none at all!!!!

There is one guy who does have a pic in his signature right now. I seen it again today. Haven't been able to figure how he did that.

Paul, would that have been me? I was the only one here that had a gif sig going with my GTP in it. I recieved a friendly email from Andy about no pics in the sigs. So I happily removed it. It was small enough though to at least, in my opinion, not annoy anyone.
Here it is:

Had I read the FAQ I would have known that their were to be no images in sigs. But I'm all squared away now. Wink Thanks AndyThumbs Up

Yes Chris that was you. There was some one else with a tuner pic but I haven't seen that one lately. I was not complaining. I purposely did not mention your name. If the mod wanted to do something about it, then that was up to him. Merely stating a fact while there was a heated discussion going on about sigs. I thought that the rules had been changed to allow them but I couldn't find how to attach a sig. Sorry if I am not laid back enough!

Shoot Paul, You are laid back enough for me! I just figured it was me with the gif sig. No big deal here. Andy saw it and was really cool about it. No problem. You are correct though, no pictures in the sigs!

If it's wrong the forum busters will be the first to let you know, if they are silent then post away. That is the impression i get from these forums. The signatures don't bother me, to each their own.

The "no pictures in the sigs" rule is in keeping with the fundamental nature of this Forum: Keep it simple, stay on the topic, and enjoy talking about car modeling. It's really not any more complicated than that.

When I see a person with a pic in their sig, I E-mail them asking them to remove it. I just sent such an E-mail about 10 minutes ago. Smile
