October 2019 question on motorcycle shown

Re: October 2019 issue of Scale Auto, issue #253

First off, love the magazine, keep up the good work. Don't change a thing.

On the cover, there is a yellow Dodge D100 with a motorcycle in the bed. In the article, it shows a mini bike with the kit.

Obviously the mini bike came with the kit but where did the motorcycle come from? Looks like a '60s Triumph or similar. Is it still available?

I would also be interest in obtaining a 1:24 or 1:25 scale model of a Honda 750, early model if available. I am aware of the larger 1:6 and 1:8 versions.

Thanks in advance... I have been dormant for years with the car modeling but finding myself yearning to get back into it. I have enough to keep me busy through the remaining years of retirement.

Heh "Whats"...welcome back to the hobby.

That bike in the back of Terry Jessee's D100 on the cover is a Triumph Bonneville.

This bike was originally available in styrene in a 1/25th scale as a kit premium in AMT's 1963 Chevy Apache Pickup annual kit.  You can buy a resin rebop of this kit from Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland.  It builds as factory stock 1962 Bonneville, as a mildly customized version, or as a Bonneville salt flats racer with an aero shell.

However, looking at that picture I suspect Terry may have used one of 1/24th scale diecasts of motorcycles available in that format in his picture, rather than the styrene or resin kits.  Over the years, many, many different bikes have been done in 1/24th scale diecasts (I have a collection of well over 100 of them, mostly Harleys but some imports as well).  A search at the famous auction site might be a suggestion, and though I don't specifically know of a Honda 750, it's a pretty good guess that one has bene done in diecast at some point.  Good luck in your search, and again, welcome back.

PS - MPC did include a Honda 750 Chopper in their 1979 and 1980 Chevy Monte Carlo annual kits, and that 1980 kit was reissued a few years back.  There's not much of a showroom stock Honda 750 left there, but the engine itself is really well detailed.    TIM
