Bad word on the cover of SAM Vol. 39, # 6?

Mark:  I really like your magazine, and I subscribe.  Being an ex-teacher, words mean a lot to me, and I read every word in SAM, even on topics that I really have no involvement in (1/43 scale, NASCAR, foreign exotics, etc.)  You are going to think that I am an old, blue-nosed prude, however, when I register, as I must this concern: I really think you should not use the word 'pimp' on your cover (Vol. 39, #6), or in the text.
Yes, I know very well that in this context it means 'upgrading or adding features' to your model car interior, etc.  However, without being the slightest bit 'PC' (which I don't like either), it is utilizing a very poisonous verb, that as you know very well comes from the noun that describes a despicable social role and character.  How can this be good?  How can it be fair to any young person (M or F!!) who has been victimized by such a slimy, non-ethical person?
The act of pimping, yes, goes in tandem with 'the oldest profession' but it is also in truth a person who enslaves another person, for personal gain.  A pimp is human excrement, and to help de-stigmatize a word that is reprehensibly irresponsible. Whatever a pimp does to his ‘ride’ is of less-than-zero interest to me, other than maybe to drive it into a freeway abutment at 80 miles per hour!  You get it.
I hope to never read that word in SAM again, and if I do I will probably blog the gee-whiz out of the occurrence!  Thanks for reading this to the end.  More thanks if you consent to agree with me.

We agree with Wick that real pimping is horrible and not to be encouraged. And we certainly apologize to anyone offended by the use of the term on our cover. We have been trying to take a lighter approach on the cover and inside the magazine as we’ve often heard that in recent years Scale Auto has been taking itself too seriously and had gotten too stuffy. So we’re using more terms that you hear in everyday life, in the broader media and certainly among car guys. Thus the use of pimping on the April cover.

We think our readers are wise enough to know that we’re having a little fun and not endorsing pimping of people.

Thanks for your concerns and we hope you’ll continue enjoying the magazine, website and its forums!
