There's zero need to get disprespectful, none. This is an online forum. Trust us, we understand the benefit and contributions that make this forum great. We, on the editorial level, have tried all we can and everything now is in the hands of our IT team, who doesn't suck. They're very short handed at the moment, and working hard on revamping all of our websites. Just ignore the spammers for now, and I will continue to try and clean it up when I can.

Again, no need to panic. This is just a forum.

Relax folks, relax folks. The forum is still here, the forum is not going anywhere.

There's truthfully no real updates or news to provide unfortunately about appointing moderators. We've (Kalmbach Media, the publisher of Scale Auto) have secured a deal to completely redo our online system, which includes the Scale Auto website, forum, and photo galleries. We've picked out a new publishing platform and will be ditching our old online content system, SiteCore, soon. Soon, is the keyword, as this could take weeks or months or even up to a year.

During the redesign, the forum and online photo galleries will remain, but expect things to look much more modern, high-end, and user-friendly in times with other sites on the web.

With that said, priorities are priorities, and appointing moderators/determining how to do so is probably on the bottom of the list at the moment for our super, small IT department, who also oversees acticity on the 7+ other magazines' websites.

Again, fear not, the forum is not going anywhere. There's no need to panic.

I'd really like to see a response from the forum administration about this. If they have no intentions of keeping the forum up and running then just say so. Basically an honest, pull no punches type of update regarding the state of the forum. I'm not trying to imply that they owe it to us, just asking for some direction.

At this point, I don't think appointing moderators will help. I suppose it would help with the spammers.

This place seems to be on life support and no one wants to pull the plug and no one wants to revive it. I thought it may change once Jim Haught left. But, it's more inactive now than ever. Look at any thread on here and the view to comment ratio is 100+ to 1. That's terrible! At one time, if you missed a day here, you missed a lot and it would take a while to catch up. Now, you can miss a month and catch up in a couple of minutes. I don't know what it would take to fix this forum as far as increasing activity. But, doing nothing is driving away the few that remain.

It's been just about a month since this post was made. I'm not really sure what to think about this situation anymore. My head says one thing, but my heart says something else. Not trying to be negative, nor am I looking for a war with the longtime forum vets, but I think if something was going to be done it would have happened by now. Maybe I'm dead wrong on this, maybe not. But in any case I am quite disapointed.

Kind of reminds me of a girlfriend I once had. For awhile she paid lip service to the relationship, but eventually she just gave up, hoping I would go away. It sort of feels like that around here.

Or perhaps we are like Keith's goldfish. My buddy Keith moved house, and in the process a fish bowl with two goldfish was inadvertently left with a pile of things in the barn. It was remembered about a month later, but sure the fish had died, no one even checked on it. Another three or four months after that, while working in the barn, Keith came upon the fish bowl, packed with algea and most of the water gone... and two live goldfish inside. I feel like one day someone from SA will check in on the forum, find a dozen or so of us struggling to keep this thing afloat, and say, "What!? You guys are still here?"

I've gone through and cleaned up the majority of the spam/laid the ban hammer down. Sent again, key word "again" another email to try and get this resolved and figure out where we're at with moderators.

Wow! Not a single spam post to report today. That's the first time in several months I cruised the forum and found no new spam posts. Remarkable.

Hunh... I kinda miss the little buggers. Smile, Wink & Grin

Yeah, it's pretty sad when the spammers are more active than the members here. If something isn't done soon, they'll be the only ones here I'm afraid. I don't want to give up on this forum. But, with the incessant spam, lack of activity and people posting whatever wherever, I'm about there.

We have been patient. It's time to do something. I can't believe that it takes the IT department a month to program this forum so that moderators can be appointed. If it does, they should be replaced.

While the forum and magazine are separate entities, they are connected. If you lose a member, more than likely, you'll lose a subscriber too. Just ask Gregg Hutchings.

The Spam Poster's now OUTNUMBER the post's of actual member's

I'm at a loss for word's .... ( TRANSLATION : I cannot say what I REALLY want, because I would be REMOVED FROM THE FORUM !   Meanwhile , the spam would STILL BE HERE ! )

I'm "This close" to saying it anyway.... and starting a Holy War . We are under constant attack and given NOTHING to fight back with exept a little Yellow Triangle that "apparently" go's nowhere.

I have been told in the recent past, that my "Childish ranting" does not help the problem...

Neither do "EMPTY PROMISE'S " from those higher up on the food chain here....

I am DONE apologizing for  getting angry about the amount of spam on this forum !

You guy's need to figure out what your going to do about it. The Spam has gone on "FAR BEYOND " long enough !

Dont worry about the thumb print.... paint it rust and call it battle damage.

It really is getting old. IT really needs to look into this. SA is the only forum I am on with this issue. Not even FSM has this problem. Probably someone from MCM.

I agree with Lee, someone needs to look into this, and the sooner the better. It's way past the point of pointing fingers and assigning blame, it needs to be resolved. It doesn't matter whos at fault, it needs to be taken care of. Countless numbers of posts have been reported as spam yet no action has been taken to remove the spammers and to prevent this from happening again and again.

Spam is taking over this "once" fine forum.

We have to find some way to close the entry portal for these spammers.

Well .... As long as the "portal" is open....

Throw them into the abyss !    ( Flame's , Screaming, Large horned figure looming over them....)

The first three threads I opened this morning were SPAM, they were reported.  We have to find some way to close the entry portal for these spammers.  For some reason, this is the only forum of the six I frequent with a SPAM problem.

There is more SPAM in this thread, than member content !

http://cs.scaleautomag.com/sca/modeling_subjects/f/31/t/126369.aspx

Yet , as a Forum member, my "atta boy' comment in the reader gallery was held for 24 hour's. So the moderator's could decide if it was appropriate. The waiting period use to be in effect with new member post's too. The waiting period should be Re-instated. I believe that would at least slow down some of the spam.

In the recent past, I have been told that my childish ranting about spam was un-nessicarry. This is true. But I view Spam as many of you view Robo-call's. Spam Causes me to Rage and scream at the top of my lung's !  I will "Try" to hold my tongue a bit longer.

( I'm actually "Biting" it as I type this...)

Oh, and I mentioned this in another post this morning, but perhaps this is the best place to put it;

Anyone who has quoted a spammer, the quote in your post still contains the spam link once the spammer's account is eventually deleted. Please go back and remove these links from your posts. Cheers.

I have reported 14 spam posts this morning alone. There is one thread in the Sports Car forum with nine spam posts in it, going back almost a year.

You really think the sarcasm helps Tony? Grow up.

Being patient hasn't helped either, so what's your point?

Obviously the gears are in motion, and Robby has been very forthcoming with where he is at in the process. I do not believe he is the one in charge of actually making the changes. I think he submits his suggestions and waits for it to go up the hill and back down to him .

in all actuality though,  I have seen several comments in the last 48 hours that are immature and childish .  One that was taken so far the entire post was deleted . Come on people,  are we not adults here?
