No Avatars?
Posted by CodyJ on Friday, October 10, 2014 8:48 PM

Not sure if this was posted before.  I looked but didnt see it.

Why does Scale Auto not have Avatars (Pic next to your name)?  FineScale does.  I think it'd be a great addition.  Was there probs before with them?

Avatar? Members have enough problems filling out a bio or profile, yet alone an avatar.

Currently, avatars are not available.  While Scale Auto and Fine Scale Models are both owned by Kalmbach Publishing, each forum is run independently from each other.  I think that no avatars is the way to go here since we don't really need some winking, blinking picture drawing our attention away from any postings.

Cody,  I completely agree fully with both H/O n' Mike!   * Why put lipstick on a pig to make it look better..  It's still a pig! *    My main want would be having the given name, a brief profile and email address of each forum member - or you cannot post on the forum!  Other model forum sites have more member info.. But of course, "It ain't a gonna happen"!...  Let's start with some profile info, at least.....

Oh noooo!  Im NOT talking about "Animated Avatars"  I'm talking a little picture that sits by your name.  I agree that animated avatars are rather annoying.  However a little identifying pic seems a nice way to represent what you like or whatever (A semi dude has a pic of a truck, or marine has the Marine Seal, that type of stuff).  Nearly every forum usually has one.  I find it cool just because you can tell a lot about a person just from their pic.

I get what you are saying. I'm a MOPAR lover and builder.  So the Mopar pentastar  would suffice for me!  It is a good idea, but for the time being, a short profile description would be a beneficial start!  You can lead a horse to water, but..........?

We don't allow avatars because they would have to be monitored regularly, taking time away from more-important tasks.

Thanks for the response Jim.  FSM must have more staff....  or more time on their hands! Laugh

I agree snork.  It would be a good idea but oh well.  Its a minor thing.

What would avatars add, other than yet another thing for the Admins to monitor? How can they possibly be constructive?

Bigtalldad- As I said earlier usually its just a way to personalize you name and express what you like.  Like changing your background on your computer. Like Snork said he'd put the Mopar symbol.  Maybe a marine would have his branch's seal on there.  Sadly there are folks out there who abuse these and the mods have to watch this.  On FSM you have to submit it and wait to have it approved.   Which of course takes time which Jim said is not available.  And also, like I said, its no big deal.  Just was wondering why this forum doesn't have one and now I know.
