more search options?
Posted by Stuntman Mike on Saturday, July 14, 2012 3:01 PM

Hello

When I search the community for something, there are always incredible amounts of results. When I built my latest model, a 72 Chevelle, I did a search to see what other have done with the kit. There were thousands of results as each reply which includes the searched word is listed. I would be very helpful if the search could only show one result per post instead of each single reply.

Some WIP´s have plenty of replies and it doesn´t help me to find anything when there are 150 results for a single post.

A button "search topic name" or "show one result per topic" would be much appreciated.

I totally agree!

At present, a Search will result in any post having the search-word present, even in the response itself. I searched for stripping and found results where the poster indicated "I had thought about stripping..." and there were over 12,000 "hits".

My thoughts:

  • Show only the first post;  that's easy enough to do, based on time stamp and topic ID
  • Ignore text in responses when conducting the search.

Agree on this. Trying to search, and every single post that has that word or words shows up; heck one page will have all posts from the same thread! There should indeed be an option to show results as threads.

If you enter a space, minus sign, and the letters re (Example: -re) you will filter out all the replies to a post. This does not help with searching text within the post, it merely eliminates the responses.
