So the joint has a whole new look now?

Apparently we can now have avatars. But I played around in my profile and can't figure out how to load it up. The "Chage Avatar" link window doesn't seem to allow you to actually DO anything.

Whoops.  The "Change Avatar" link was actually supposed to be removed from your profile settings.  Avatars aren't allowed in this community.  Thanks for spotting that tho.

Okay, then. Next issue: How do we post pictures now? I don't see any provision for that.

Oh, just found it. You have to click the "rich formatting" link to do anything. Apparently the "default" reply window now is just an "express reply" window.

Yea, the initial reply field that renders is a quick reply option for those that just want to type and post.  If you want to use additional formatting (i.e. - bolding, italics, pictures, quotes, etc...) you need to click the "Use Rich Formatting" option.

Links in posts no longer work, even if they are pointing to another topic within the site.

Can you post an example of where you are seeing this?  All of the old links should still work.  I can investigate.  Let me know.  Thanks.

Also, I can't find any information on how to edit a post.

How do you delete a post (as in a duplicate)?

Also, I can't find any information on how to edit a post.

I'll look into the link issue.

You can edit any post you created by clicking the "pencil" icon that appears below your posts.  You'll only see this on posts you created tho.

Signatures can be modifed by either clicking the "Community Settings" link in the profile box right above the ad zones in the right column.  Or by simply going here:

I noticed in the full rich format version, the box at the bottom is PRE CHECKED for E mail replies ...I think that should be UN CHECKED....I don't need email's about posts.

How do you mark forums as read? How do I get back to the mobile version after I've switched to the full site version?

The e-mail replies option has been defaulted to "un-checked".  Just as an FYI as well, you can manage your e-mail notifications by clicking the "E-mail Notifications" link located in the profile box.  The profile box is located in the right column right above the ad zones.

The direct link to e-mail notifications would be here:

When in a forum, if you scroll down about half way, right below the advertisements in the right column should be an area called "Forum Options".  In that area should be a link called "Mark all read".

There is a link in the footer of the full site right below "Community & Forums" called "Mobile".  Clicking this will allow you to access the mobile site from the full site.

Interesting new look and functionality. Seems to work fine (the new preview option is great). I have a couple of notes though:

1. I *think* there used to be a bar between the content of a post and the poster's signature. Now there is not. Sigs are set in the same font as post content, so sometimes it looks like a user's sig is part of their post. I guarantee this is going to cause confusion! For instance:

"That's an interesting choice of wheels. Are you going to adjust the way they fit under the fenders?

Yes..this is horrible, this idea."

The above is not a put-down, it's a question and then an amusing movie quote from "Office Space"!

2. There does not seem to be a "threads started by this user" option anywhere. This makes it difficult to find past threads by other builders, and even my own old threads, if I can't remember exactly what the title was!

3.*EDIT* Also, the blue box surrounding all posts gives posts a double border, which is disconcerting and makes it look like everything is block-quoted (nested posts).

No, there isn't. Let me elaborate a bit. I don't log in on my phone because I only look while on my phone. If it's there while logged in it is not if you are not logged in. If it's not there while not logged in then non-members can't use it. Non-members will have no way of using the mobile version if they view the full site once. You won't attract many new members if that one simple thing can't be done. Also, I thought changes were to make things more user friendly. Sites already load slow on a phone, and now instead of going directly to page three of a thread I have to load page one then three, taking twice as long to view what I want. That surely will turn people away too.

I'm not impressed with the mobile app either, but at least I can post from my Android phone now. I am one of the guilty parties that drives up "views" without posting warm fuzzies to the builder because I was viewing the site on my phone.

Dear Scale Auto,

My suggestion is to return to the old forum format temporarily, then take some time to combine SA's intentions and (senior) members' suggestions to improve the forum site.

Alternatively, have members vote if they want to keep the new format. For example, ask them in a voting-post, which they can mark 'favorite' if they say yes, or 'mark read' if they say no. A simple way to get quick feedback.

Please also consider views expressed here.

Regards, Csaba

It appears that the location of the person writing the post has gone away. This was quite useful, especially if the author did not live in the U.S.

It makes little sense to suggest that somebody go to Walmart if that person lives in Yugoslavia.

Under the old forum, it was beneficial to know the date when the topic was first posted. Some members bring back a topic that was originally posted 7 years ago.How can you tell the age of the topic that was replied to today without clicking on the topic to view the date posted

I've spent a few minutes cruising around the new forums and I think I like it. Most of the suggestions put forth would help, but I think it will just take some time to get used to the new format. The one I definitely noticed (which Spex84 mentioned) is the missing horizontal rule between the post and the signature. The other thing I would like to see is the user info on the posts i.e. when they joined, location etc.

Other than that I think the update looks good. It seems to run a little more quickly as well. The quick reply box at the bottom of a page of posts is my favourite new aspect since you can scroll up to previous posts in the middle of typing which helps when commenting on someone's build or referencing something someone else has said. Thanks for taking the time to keep the forums moving forward!

Edit: I was looking for the pencil icon to edit a typo in this post and noticed it was quite small and right next to the report as abusive button. You may get quite a few abuse reports by members accidentally clicking the report button while trying to edit.

I know I clicked on it but you need to type something before you submit it so most users should catch it before actually submitting.

I am getting used to the new format but like most have mentioned it is going to take some time to get used to the functionality.

I really wish the recent posts were rearranged a bit instead of user name first than subject. It seems backwards to me.

X2, I agree.  It would be beneficial to have this info available without having to open up the thread first, yet another thing I already miss from the old version.  Believe me though, I am trying to adjust and warm up to this new format, but am having a hard time doing so.

After adding  tags to my post I can not ad post to the thread anymore on the last page (12).  The area to add dialogue is no longer available and the "Use rich formatting" link is no longer there.  The reply button is still there but does nothing.  When I tried to remove the tags I found no way to do so.  Her is the link to the page so you can see what I mean.  cs.scaleautomag.com/.../1024294.aspx

No comment on this? It would be helpful for non members and mobile users.
