Delete Post Option
Posted by BigE68 on Friday, February 24, 2012 12:20 PM

I was just wondering if there is any thought to giving the person who started a thread the ability to delete a post themselves? There seems to be some people who start random profiles to either promote a "business" or to post comments that are intentionally rude or off topic, then you have a half a dozen (or more) people responding to the inapproprate post.

I have seen (and reported) some comments that I personally would not want any children of mine to have to read, and some questionable (to say the least) business solicitations. Of course, after reporting them they are eventually removed, but it seems that it would take one more thing off the monitors plate if a delete option was available to the person that began the thread.

Just a thought,

If someone starts a post, only they can delete the thread within 5-10 minutes as long as no one posts a reply to it.  Only the poster can modify their own posts at any time including the entire message, but leaving a blank post if the entire message is erased.  Unfortunately, we cannot delete any one's post.  Imagine the havoc that will come about if we can delete someone elses postings at will.  This is only something that the Administrators can and should do when they are informed about it or they see it themselves.

I like the idea of being able to delete my (and only my) post, regardless of how old the post is.

I'd also like to see an option to flag the post as being in the wrong forum. That way, administrators would not have to examine every post to see if it's appropriately located.

I was refering more toward the idea that, for example, you start a thread and down the line someone either post a "business" offering or something else off topic, that you should be able to remove that post yourself. It is after all your thread. I know its a poor comparison, but I can delete some thing that someone posted to my Facebook if I want without having to report it. I'm just saying that if you started the thread, maybe you should have the ability to dictate what's on there, I'm not talking about roaming through every thread and just being able to delete any post or picture you don't like. I'm just talking about ones where you were the one that began the thread.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful that you even have the ability to even "report" a post, I have been on some other forums (not always model related), that seem like no one is watching, and it's a pain to try and follow anything because there's so much bickering back and forth, and random post.

Thanks again,
