Selling is not allowed on the Forum, but you could take out a classified ad.

Is this a policy that should be re-visited?

In the 'Ask Scale Auto' section there is the 'where can I get' section, perhaps a new section in 'Ask Scale Auto' where people could post modeling items they're looking to part ways with would be a good resource.

Oftentimes there is something you need but it's been on the back burner for so long that you've fogotten you need it. Now, you're browsing through the posts and see someone has that certain part you've wanted for years for sale or trade... could be a good thing!

Would it really be that different from the 'where can I get' section? Obviously there would be guidelines, and it would probably work great even if all you were allowed to post was a short description of what you wanted to sell/trade, everything else could be handled via PM or email.

I agree. I think this is a great idea.

We don't have that sort of section because of the moderation necessary, and the requests to intervene in transactions, etc. That's why that stuff should be done in private.

I have a small, at home, online business, dealing with some services and items I offer.  Like everyone else, right now, my business is very slow.  I can't quite afford to advertise yet.  I am perfectly happy to keep it out of this forum.  The Scale Auto Forum is hosted (that is, paid for, set up, worked on, etc.) for anyone to use and enjoy, for free. Anyone can join.  This free service costs the publisher money. And, putting out Scale Auto costs money.  Stop and think for a second.  Where does that money come from?  Magazine sales, subscriptions, and advertising.  If I get to put free ads on the Forum, I am cutting into the profit margin. I think everyone understands what that could lead to: No more SA!   We don't want that, do we?

The main focus of the Forum is sharing your model building, with posts and pictures.  There are a lot of knowledgeable forum users, who are more than willing to try to help anyone with problems or questions. And, when you show us your work, you can count on appreciative comments, suggestions, and questions.   And it's open 24/7!  It's like having a magazine that grows bigger as you read it.

To paraphrase Jim, buying, selling or trading, on this Forum, would end up causing huge problems. Having been in retail sales for years, I can guarantee you this.  Even though the vast majority of people are honest, there would still be some who would misrepresent what they have to offer, or not ship you a paid-for item, or not pay you for something you sent them  How would you handle bad checks?  The list of potential problems goes on.  It would be a big mess. Banged Head

Through the Internet, you have a number of options for buying and selling, through online auctions, and forums dedicated to sales, etc.  Check those out!

Thanks for listening.

Mike

i agree. sell stuff on ebay or similar, then you get the protection they offer

just out of interest, if people list stuff on ebay, can they put a link to it on here?

Hi, Well, I remember the old SA offered free ads to new and renewing subscribers. I think you guys should do this again. steve

If I respond to some one looking for parts that I can supply can I offer them a list of kits I have for sale also? They would be told to take any requests off that list private. If my request went through their private email and never showed up on this web sight would that work?
