WIP thread of a display case
Posted by 7055 on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 10:50 PM
Think it would be appropriate to do a WIP thread of a display case I'm making for my model cars? It wouldn't really be about model building, more like wood working. Thats why I ask.

Before you start any topic, I think it's important to ask yourself a few questions:
Will this topic help people in any way?
Is this topic important to our hobby?
Is the topic appropriate for this forum?
Has the topic or something very similar been posted before?

All of us need a way to display our models, and many could likely benefit from seeing how you're doing this. Maybe you could broaden it up. Instead of a WIP of your case, ask the questions you have about yors and show what makes your case special. That way more members might feel more like sharing their ideas, suggestions, and questions. I need to build a display case myself, so I'd definitely take interest in it.
In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups. There are the police who investigate crimes, and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories. Doink Doink! Jake Couture

i think this project would be appropriate in the forums, we all build models so we all need display cases. if the base will be like a road or grass or ground maybe dioramas would be a good place for it, or maybe other or builders corner? Go fast and turn left ... Dirts for racing, asphalts for getting there... racecar spelled backward is racecar

I think it's quite appropriate to talk about display cases for models in a forum that is all about the hobby. Just one question...What does WIP stand for?

BTW, have you considered using clear acrylic and mirrored acrylic instead of glass? I got some at my local hardware store (Ace/TrueValue). It's a little more expensive than glass, but the case will end up much lighter and safer (no glass to break!).

I made a shelf from the mirrored acrylic for my diecast [yes, I'm one of those diecast guys, in addition to plastic!] It worked pretty well, though the acrylic that was immediately available at my hardware store was a little thin and there is a little trouble with sag while supporting two 1:18 scale NASCAR diecast cars...but shouldn't be a problem with plastic models.

Just my My 2 cents
