Here is a bit more work on my Datto 240Z Safari car.

it's amazing how the colour can change with the light and the background of white cardstock.

The extractors R made out of solder and supaglued into position, works so far.

I bought one of the new similR kits of the Focus WRC, and a supplier has just emailed me to say that the Ken Block Monster decals are in the post to me. So that's another RallyCar kit build up for the future.(so we can keep this open for another 12 months or so)

See Factory Stock for my continued (20+ years) build of the 1/8 scale Pocher Mercedes Benz 540K Cabrio.               ( I thought I'd better finish it soon as my wife bought it for me in 1988!)

Well, I suppose it's time I make a post.Cool

As the old Monogram 280Z rally car is a curbside kit (no engine compartment/no separate chassis detail), there isn't much to it.  Been a bit busy so this is all I have completed:

Will be moving shop to another location, so I won't have anything to add for a couple of weeks.

Matt

Good to have U on board Matt, we might just have a bit of a CBP going at last now that we've got well 3 if not 4 guys building, Patrick love wot U've said about the new rally car and the new Ken Blocks decals should look good if not great. My Datto has come to a small holt again as I have had another toxic build-up in system and i't has laid me flat for a few days BUT don't worry I'll be back at it soon when I buy myself a decent respirator and deyox my body with drops given to me by my natropath, he's a great fellow and helps out a lot.

I didn't build this as part of the CBP, but I thought I'd share it here anyway. Tamiya kit, some photoetch, some light weathering.

Sorry to hear that Chillyb1, it would've made for anopther great rally car on our build maybe U can start on a new car there's plenty of time as I have extended the period and am considering making it an open build where anyone can join at any time, I'll close it when I think we've had enough.

dingo, you get back to strength soon. I like seeing a couple more cars on here, I've done a couple of the Peugeots one of these here and a 307. Yes I saw Ken Block on the Rally of Italy at the weekend, he must slow down though that's the second or third time where he's gone off on the first stage, a liitle too excited I think.I see the datto coming along slowly as is MattS70's motor. All good stuff.

Patrick, went out on Thursday and bought myself a plastic kit  arrr sorry not a rally car but still a good one it's the Revall Kurtis Midget Racer and with the help of the article in the latest SA mag Oct 2011 I plan to build it really good Although I'm thinking of using my own decals instead of the kit ones but not sure yet wot to put on the car.  My tozic situation is clearing up BUT I still must be careful when using glues and so should you be Patrick, I didn't realise how bad it was until I got struck down wit this horrible elbow ache that happens everytime I use MEK liquid cement, so please  be careful buddy.

dingo, you stick with it mate and go careful, some of the stuff we use, glues, paints can be very dodgy. An old friend of mine had his own shoe menders for 40 years, but now he's retired his breathing has gone downhill big time. I only see him now on an electric scooter because he can't walk anywhere. So go very steady and heed what the doc has to say and all the very best. I stiil look forward to seeing your Kurtis though! Have a good weekend.

Patrick, my natropath has put me on drops to detox my lungs and other vital organs to try and help me so I can get back to building both plastic & cardstock, I'm hoping that my next rally model will be a dakar truck as I have downloaded a Kamaz from a site that is well let's say most folks wouldn't go there if U get my drift  don't get me wrong Patrick it's not a bad site full of viruses and the like it's just that it's a site that you get stuff for free if you know wot i mean without going into it too far.  Lets hope the truck turns out to have an interior coz so far most R wot U call box rigs no interiors no mootors etc.

Patrick, dunno know if I'm going to be able to finish my rally car projects as each and everytime I use glue or paint I get this stupid feeling in my left elbow and it keeps me up all night with pain, I've tried everything short of cutting thig arm off and it hasn't worked even swalowed anti-hystamines and nothing so let's hope somewhere long the line I can pick up.

dingo, the first thing is to look after yourself, be very careful of these glues, paints and stuff. But you know that already! If you can't finish too bad but be safe eh?

Patrick, I ened up in the local hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning where the doctor told me it was all in my mind, one nurse said yea sure thing doctor this guy is sitting here shaking like a leaf and it's in his mind anyway after taking some blood that did nothing but make my arm soar cooz they couldn't find a vein that was hitting them in the head and putting me on an ECG machine they finally let me go home at 7am some 6 hours after arriving at hospital and waiting an 1 hour in the waiting room.  On monday I'm on to my local hardware shop to buy a decent charcoal respirator so I can continue my hobby see U back here with my cars real soon Patrick.

Patrick just thought I'd let U know that I picked up the Ford Falcon XT 4 door sedan (it's body only) at a Hot Rod Show my wife an I plus our neighbour went to yesterday (Sunday 4th Dec) it was a good day out but I was disappointed coz even though many of the rods had great exterior pnt jobs etc their interiors were left a little to be desired there was only one good rod there and I suppose I'm a little biased because it belonged to a friend of ours who has 3 of them as a limo service. Pictures of my Falcon to follow soon.

Patrick, My big Datsun is finished well almost all I have to do now is glue the exhaust into position and it's done, Also the little midget speedway car is done and I will place that on the race section as soon as my wife gets the program for downloading the camera on this laptop, she's a bit slow nah not really too busy doing the laser business when Customs can pull thir collective fingers out.  Love you Skoda hope it turns out as good as the photo below it.  As for my health it's looking up I'm on a detox rpogram that's helping or should be helping but I won't know for at least a couple of weeks my natropath says.  I'll put up photos as soon as I can of al, the cars including the XT Falcon body shell.

Hey Patrick got some great news for ya, U know my elbow problem which we thought was a toxic problem or an allergy wel tiurns out it ain't, nope not at all last night (yep new years eve) I ended uo at the local hospital with one hell of an elbow pain so bad I was in tears (no kidding) this very nice Asian lady doctor ran a series of test on it and found out (wait for it sit down as ya going to wet U'rself laughing Laugh )  tennis elbow  yep U'r reading right tennis elbow, so all I have to do now is lay-off the model building for about a month then when I gett back into it take 10 minute beaks every 15 minutes or so and straighten out the elbow so it doesn't happen again   o yea and ofcourse take medication for it as well.

Firstly I wish you and your family a very happy new year and it looks to be a good start with that news of yours! Now do just what the lady says and rest up and take breaks although you may not think that you need them at the time. I'm still trying to source the Nissan Mica Green for the S2000 Skoda fabia WRC, so all is on hold at present.

What a shame it didn't go as either of us would have liked. I've got the Skoda S2000 car to start this week and the Simil R Focus with Ken Block Monster decals. I don't know about MCM, so watch how you go, I hope your now in better health and we may meet up again soon somewhere else, all the best dingo.

Well dingo, I going to produce another few rally cars...

They are both in a smaller 1/32 scale but with plenty of detail, watch this space!!

Here's the beginings of the builds with the Fiesta shell painted.........

And the side and front shot of the Mini. The roof has already been painted white and masked off.......

So while the Mini shell drys off properly, it shouldn't take long as it's 86F here today, I shall hand paint the steering wheel, suspension, roll cage etc.

Here we have two pics of the Mini body prior to the pillars being sprayed matt black............

I've been at the paint again! Well I've sprayed the door pillars and the edging around the shell with satin black.................

I've also had to search into my stash of decals as Airfix don't supply interior decals with this kit. As i only have two decals in this scale each seatbelt will only have one! And I have found a red aircraft roundel for the large round speedo in the middle of the dash..................

I've also fitted the combined steering column and gearchange lever. As on WRC cars the gearboxes are sequential like a motorcycle gearbox you pull the lever towards the driver to go up the box 1>6 and push the lever toards the dash to go down the box 6>1.

I'll have to put a splash of matt black on the lever prior to fitting the steering wheel but that's for tomorrow, as I'm waiting for the glue to go off overnight.

I have more pics today with a warning...............

I give a warning regarding the build of the rollcage that you see above. When you get to stage 9 in the instructions take the drivers side of the cage and fit the steering column brace onto the locators as seen inside the cage. Then continue to finish off the cage and fix it to the floorpan, I say this as I did as stage 9 and when I got to 12 I couldn't get the brace through the side of the cage because there is no room to do that. So I had to take the side off, fit the brace, put the side back on and locate the other end of the brace to the steering column. Having had experience of going down to 1/43 and building rollcages in photoetch and white metal into rallycars I know how to build and fit a cage!

PS I also painted the gear change handle and fitted the steering wheel!

I started the decals today. the small long ones over the door split in two, so I laid them in two parts. The side chequered decals went on a treat!.................

The roof ones went on OK as well..................

I should finish the decals tomorrow and then leave them to dry over the weekend, then two coats of clear gloss on Monday.

The Ford Fiesta WRC is finished................

The thin white line decal was a smidge difficult to line up around the panels!

The side view.................

And the front view. you will notice that because the body is close to the ground this is a tarmac spec car. The gravel spec cars would have higher longer throw suspension..........................
