Hi there folks, just a few more pics on the McCrae Focus build.Firstly one of the brake rotors and red caliper.

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

The next is the body with glass in. As my masking skills are a little to be desired the rear side glass is painted freehand!

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

For the third pic these are the wheels with decals, I will pick out the wheelnuts at a later date, possibly tomorrow.

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

The fourth image (if I can away with it) is the first body decal. It is a real pain because it is so big. Getting the decal to form over the wheel arch took a lot of Micro-Sol! When I do the other side I might cut it into smaller pieces.

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

Well there we are up to date, and I hope to do some more of the decals to cover this side tomorrow.

Patrick U'r doing a great job on the Focus mate, here R a few more pics of my Mazda.  This being the chassis in plain plastic then primed.

This being a club car U can see it still has the back seat in positin this is because in Australia most club cars R every day runners as well.

dingo, good going on the primer! Yes as you say these are mostly daily driver cars. Although ours are classed as Group N (showroom stock) and not perhaps daily drivers they still have to have all seats in place and just fit the standard safety features such as a roll cage and fire extinguisher, either mounted on the cage or on the floor in front of the co-drivers/navigators seat. I'm getting a few more decals on the Focus and hope to get some more pics in the next few days.

I've just seen the latest Sky Sports News showing the new Citroen DS3 WRC for Sebastien Loeb and in our Autosport magazine yesterday info on both Petter Solberg's and Kimi's DS3's as well, all supported it seems by Red Bull.

Wow Patrick U'r doing really well with this build the decaling loks great, U know the rules for rally cars are different in different countries around the world as I said here a club car can be used every day but a Group N car can't be but one reall silly law covering club cars is if the car is fitted with a full cage where the rear seat passenger can't sit in the back it can't be driven daily but if it is certified as a two seater by the road authorities it can be so we have some club cars that R full passenger cars during the week with back seats and some cars that R just 2 seaters I guess we here in Oz R sillier than I thought oh well that's Australia for U.

Hi all, a few more decals, this time front and rear.

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

I had a few probs getting the larger multi curved surface decals to conform to the body shape, so 'ding' the bell went in the one cell left in the head and I switched on my small fan heater behind my chair in the cabin and brushing on Microsol held the body in front of the heater and 'hey presto it softens the decals and they now conform the the various body shapes!

I've also brushed a bit of clear on the wheel centre decals so they don't come off when I attach them to axles/steering and painted the clear rear light lenses with clear red and orange acrylic, another coat tomorrow. I have also found in my spares tubs some radiator mesh as the kit doesn't supply any, to put the white Ford logo in the front bumper aperture.

Hi guys here we are again. Today, I've fitted the radiator mesh, changed number plates as I put the wrong one on the rear (Carlos Sainz), fitted lights, and more decals to the front with the Ford logo on the mesh.

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

Tomorrow I hope to finish all decalling and spray a coat of gloss clear all over (except the windows)

Just wondering Patrick how many rally cars R you planning on building for this build coz the way Ya going U'r going to be finished way ahead of time.  Anyway here is somemore work on my slow boat to the rally start model.

The colour is Tamiya's J.A. Gray XF-14 just perfect for athe interior of a Japanese car of that era.

Hi there dingo, yes I've just finished this one. As I only build one at a time I concentrate on getting them finished, and the other reason is I've got a Lexus Harrier to convert to a Dakar style Desert Racer and a new scratchbuild I've dreamed up which I will show later on.

And I'm hoping to make one of these,

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

A Russian Tatra Aerosleigh out of one of these

Wow Patrick the focus looks great, that Tatra will be a great vintage rally car if Ya can get it right and will be a welcome difference to the so far not well going thread.  Looks like it going to be a challenge between U and me as to who can build the best group of cars hey Patrick.

Hi, Patrick and Dingo would you mind if I get in on your ralley CBP.  I know I'm new here but I've got a Peugeot 206 and a Lancia Delta I could do.  I love rally racing whenever its on here in Nevada I try to watch it or at least record it.

Mike welcome to the build but remember that the kits must be presented in their boxes first and as an unbuilt kit then U can start and do wot ever U want with them, build 'em as a night stage car, clean car as in the start of the rally, dirty even a crashed car if U'r that good and also if u finish both cars before the end of the year build some more that's OK by me.  The more the merrier Mike.

Thanks Dingo Both kits are new in box I will post photos this evening.  I think I will do a start of the rally car as I'm not that good at weathering.

Welcome NVModeller. The two kits you are suggesting are both favourites of mine, the pug I built about two yeras ago and the Lancia is a favourite since marshalling on the RAC rally here in the UK some years ago! I've seen various of the Lancia kits but always seem to miss buying fast enough, when I get there they are GONE! I've recently found some rally action with Lancia's boths Delta's, 013's and Stratos on Youtube, really worth watching.

I look forward to some piccys real soon!

OK guys here R a few more photos of my Mazda, as U can see it is a slow process but then I do have other things to do such as look after my wife who is never really well at the best of times.  Anyway here's my pix.

The dash with the Halda in position all I have to do now is paint a few silver bits on the face to represent the re-outs.

The driving lights R a combo of kit light & aftermarket lights with the top one actualy being truck bull lights to represent Cibie Super Oscars. The kit lights represent Cibie Oscars.

The rear bumper with a rectangular light to represent the reverse light use on club cars during the 60's & 70's before state law prevented them.

The instrumentation

So there we have my car so far.

dingo,I'm also sorry to hear about your wife. Your build is doing very well in the circumstances, so keep up the good work.

I might start another build soon as I came across a kit by Hasegawa that I'd been looking for, for some time, and here it is;

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

The car above was driven by Mikki Biasion in the day, so shoul be an interesting one to build!

Ah I forgot to mention that another car I've wanted to build has just come up but only the body by a UK resin caster, so it means making/finding a chassis and all the other bits, so it may be more of a long term project, a Mark 1 Ford Escort with wide arches!

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

It's now difficult to know whether to build it works Ford rallycar or Broadspeed circuit racer.

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

OR

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

Decisions,decisions!

All the best and have a good weekend.

Patrick that is one car I want for my collection but the only one in pastic is the arifix 1/32nd scale kit and the resin stuff is way out of my pocket price.  I have quite a few classic rally cars and that's really wot I'm building on and boy is it ever hard not to many of them around, I do have the Revell Escort rally car kit, the Mk2 version ( wot I call the square body) but it ain't a patch on the Mk1 model even in the 1:1 cars.  I was hoping a few more builders wold come onto this CBP but I guess no one is interested in rally cars I bet ya Patrick if it was Nascar it would be full hey but then I'm not a great Nascar fan we don't have it here anymore, still get it on T.V. but actually racing it collapsed about 20 years ago here in Oz . Anyway Rallying is more interesting.  Hve gone a bit further with my model but as yet no pics, coming soon.

dingo, the maker of the resin Mk1 says to use the MK2 chassis/interior for the  Mk1. so I'm trying to source that kit over here. We are having a lot of grief over here with televised motor racing at present. The only racing on freeview is F1 and domestic British Touring cars. The rest is on Sky (Skysports/Eurosport or Motors) which you pay one price per month for all satelite channels 300+ of them, but DTM and WRC is now on ESPN which is £!2 or £15 per programme! World Rally Champoinship organisers and sponsors have always complained about the lack of premium airtime but at those prices not many people are going to watch!

Patrick, I'e lost interest in motorsport here in Oz lately and it's because of the blasted TV stations. We use to get the WRC on our SBS ch28  but in 2010 the new ch.11 sports station took it on and they show it when ever they want to which 9 times out of 10 is at 2 or 3 am man I'd rather be sleeping at that time, I do get to watch Nascar whic for some reason they show during daylight usually around 11am. The V8 supercars R shown on ch7 and we get that live ut when there is only two types of cars racing it get BORING yea Patrick two types the Holden Commodore & the Ford Falcon bot 4 door sedan replicas although they do look like the real thing and they claim   their made up of components of the real car that U can buy, other thatn what I've written here we don't get much else in the way of motor racing that's worth watching.  Oh yea we do get F1, Australian rally champs and drag racing and I do wacth the drag racing as it's on at a decent hour usually 9:30 at night and witht hat I just love the door slammers they're wild, oh I like the nitro dragters as well especially when they blow 10grands worth of motor glad it's them and not me hey Patrick.

Well I'm back after a succesful bid on ebay got me a crystal Ford Escort MK2 RS 1800 rally car.

So the Resin MK1 shell is being worked on as follows- bonnet and boot lid removal. For the technique I have to thank the contributors to this website, by using the back edge of a craft knife blade as follows and might I say plenty of patience, that my wife tells me I don't have. They both took about an hour and a half to carefully cut through especially the front bonnet around the grill and headlights, the amount of resin lost as dust to be built back up with body putty or styrene strip.

The bare shell-

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

The boot lid removed

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

And the bonnet removed

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

Both removed and the shell

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

The car I hope to replicate

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

More pics soon as more work gets done.

Hi and here we are again, with a few more pics, this time I have fitted the mark2 chassis. This took a little shaving off of the shell and a little from the chassis. As the interior of the doors is moulded in this gave a good base for the top side of the chassis to sit on. Now that is done I've gone along the side sill edges and filled some tiny airholes from the mould process, now I'll wait for that to dry before smoothing down. I've also used cereal box to make up templates for the windows which I shall cut from clear plastic packaging. But first the chassis fitting from today;

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

Removing the chassis, I've given both the top and underside of the chassis a coat of Humbrol spray can Satin Black, and as it is a warm and sunny day here I've put it on the deck in front of the cabin to dry in the warm air. More pics soon.

Hey guys a new Ford Focus on the scene.

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0]

The Simil-R 2010 Ford Focus WRC, the only drawback I can see is the price at a scary £44.99, due in later this month. But would be good to see on this thread!

OK....i'm in.

Galli's Citroen Xsara

I gathered the parts over a year ago then had a basement flood. I did no building for almost 9 months. This build is only at the gathered stage with homemade decals from a friend.

Welcome Pat Redmond, we look forward to seeing your Citroen build of Gigi Galli's car. I built this one a few years ago in 1/43 scale resin,

[View:/themes/sca/utility/:550:0].

Of course Galli used to drive one of these, the Fiat Punto 1600 also 1/43 but in white metal;

Welcome Pat to our rally car cbp and hope you enjoy U'r time here, as U can see U don't have to stick to just one car as long as U show the kit in the box and before it is painted U can build as many as U want now, this is because it is such a smal CBP.
