McClaren F1
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, December 23, 2003 1:12 AM
Anybody who is a true fan of racing or really knows their cars, they would know that the mcclaren F1 is undeniably the fastest race car ever made. its aero dynamics are said to be better than those of an airplane. Mario Andretti said himself that it is the best race car ever made. the only problem is they are TOO fast. because of their aerodynamics, if any air get underneath them the driver is helpless and can be flying the car for 100's of yards. Anybody know if anybody makes this model?

We had this question come into "Ask Scale Auto" some time back. I did some research and, oddly enough, couldn't find anyone that kits the F1. I thought someone would have kitted this extraordinary car, but I was wrong. Plenty of diecasts of it, but not plastic kits yet.

I anyone knows of a plastic or resin one, let me know.

I haven't been around the modeling scene long enough to be looking for it. I will say that it seems to be a no brainer for the modeling crowd, I'd buy one in a heartbeat! I was keeping an eye on this subject to see if anyone knew of one. Speaking for myself the world can't have too may McLarens! I have two of the Can-Am cars sitting at home waiting to be built and I just now thought it would be great to get another one and build the street coupe that was based on the Mk8!

If anybody knows of any McLaren closed wheel, please let me know or I'll start crying.

Happy Holidays guys!

Doesn't Revell of Germany have a 1/24 scale kit? There was a two part article in SAE on building and detailing it, don't remember which two issues though.

I posted this in the "Did they make....?" forum.

I did a bit of looking and found two 1/24 McLaren F1 models, and they aren't cheap!

This is an eBay listing for $125,

Here is the same model from Island Collectibles for $95. (scroll down to the list)

Here is an eBay listing for a Modeler's kit that is already to $265!

I think the McLaren is THE best looking car, but I'll have to save a lot of pennies for this kit!
