Chrome Bullet style gas tank
Posted by baxterant on Monday, July 09, 2018 10:10 PM

Hi there

Can anybody out there please tell me what kit (or kits) the above came in? Tim Boyd used one on a '32 street roadster he did a while back. I've pulled my own collection apart and no joy. It's doing my head in! Can someone please help identify?

Do you have a photo of it? While the kit part (tank) may be chromed, most tanks were made of spun aluminum and this can be accomplished by spraying the chrome tank with a couple light coats of Testors Dull-Cote.

I think you mean "BILLET" style, maybe? If you are speaking of the small, keg style tanks, they can be found in nearly any show rod or hot rod kit. If you have a photo of the particular tank, I likely have one I can send you.

My favorite color is clear. I am also ambidexterous, I can screw up equally well with either hand. I am 53 years old and been building for most of that time. :)

On the bench... somewhere. Pink Panther show car, 1978 Dodge Magnum Charger Daytona Midnight edition SE 300. Mongrel T.

Thanks for the fast replies guys! The tank in question is definitely a chromed bullet shape. It was on Tim's '32 Ford street roadster in SAM Oct 2010. Tried to post a photo but that's a more painful process than trying to find the tank itself. It's a shame we just can't attach directly from our desktops without going thru a rigmorole. Might just try to contact Tim directly.

Hi guys Got a reply from Tim. He couldn't remember where he got the tank from exactly but he gave me the clue I needed. Went on eBay and did a bit of research. The good news is these cool tanks can be found in '71 Comet, '74 AMC, '73 Hornet and the Mighty Maverick funny cars and maybe some others not currently on eBay. Now the bad news for those who haven't immediately clicked, they're all Johan! An eye watering "oh darn". I dry my eyes and move on.

I just sold a mint/still sealed JoHan Comet earlier this year. I'm sure that you can find another tank somewhere or at least post a photo of the kind you're looking for.
