73 Gran Torino
Posted by Drackopolis on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 6:36 PM
I want to build a Starsky and Hutch "striped tomato" and i need to know if i can find that kit anywhere.

I have the Johan Torino but it is the fastback and in stock car racing form, not right for this project.

Can someone help me locate this ellusive Torino?

Look in the last 2 issues, not the brand new one.Towards the front, there is an ad for that car.I'll see if I can find the site for you....stand by.

Catalog $2 LSASE

The car is $42.95,and it comes with tho body, hood, interior parts, vaccuformed glass, bumpers, grille, taillights, and wheels.None of the parts are plated. You'll need a 1970 Torino as a donor car. There, are you happy now.Good luck with it.

Now i am even happier because i checked with my supplier and he can get the same kit for $23.95. the only problem is it will take anywhere from 2 weeks to a few months to get it. But i have a dozen in-progress projects going so i can wait for it at that price.

I just hope it is better than the Horizon Mach5 resin kit i paid $65 dollars for a couple years ago just to be totally angry over the fact that it is not accurate at all. I am still trying to fix that body...

I saw a picture of it in the SAE,and it was unbuilt. The body looked awesome. The company states that it's a '76 Torino, not a '73,and they are correct.Type in "Starsky and Hutch Torino"in your search engine and check out the pictures. On some of the cars, the stripe was just white. On others ,the stripe had a very thin black pinstripe around the white stripe.I watched some of the old shows, and I saw the car both ways.So either would be accurate. A 460 would be perfect.Good luck with the car.Oh,by the way,it was in the Feb.'03 issue. No wonder we couldn't find it.I had to go back a year.I knew I saw it somewhere. If you need anything else,E-Mail me and let me know.

You got it, and thanks a ton for your help.

The stripe doesn't look right to me without the black outline and i did notice that in the show as well.
Ford's factory production car had the black outlines but the stripe was not right at all. the rims weren't deep dish enough either.
There is one of those running around town in mint condition and i picked it apart when i chatted with him at the gas station. he didn't like me very much i am sure but i was only trying to help him have an accurate replica.

Did you happen to find the site with the guy who owns 2 of them from the show?
There were some molding issues as well between the cars, and the color of the spacers in the corners of the bumpers was another flaw that wasn't consistant on them also.
The guy who purchased them has no intention of restoring them either and they are both in very poor shape.

Will do 2cam16!

vinnietbird, Johnny's Toys is where i buy exclusively now, unless i want a bulk order and find a better price online. Their vendor has a ton of resin kits and even stocks Jimmy Flintstone's line along with tons of other resin kits.
The problem is the time it takes to get them, 2 weeks to a couple months but i don't ever have to pay up front, and that is only the resin kits that take that long.

Jimmy needs to put out a catalogue or get a site up or something. I have become a huge fan of his work and really need to have access to his stuff, it's just awesome.

I hope to meet him in April at the Toledo show and pick up as much of his stuff there as i can.

How about i do something for you instead and add another Torino to my order?

If Tim is in tomorrow i will just tell him i want two of them and when they come in i'll let you know, and if you have changed your mind by then i will just build two of them ?
